randy b replied: "11.6" screen (small)
1.66ghz processory (rather slow, but its a supersmall, and probably inexpensive laptop)
1GB of RAM (decent)
160GB hard drive (average for a laptop)
webcam, bluetooth, wireless internet, SD card reader(camera memory card)
Windows XP (outdated, but still a really good OS)
I would Say this would be a good laptop if it were under $450, anymore than that I would go for a differnt one. there are numerous companies with these out with very similar specs. Good luck.
This is a new line of Micro sized inexpensive laptops. They're great and a good buy for business, internet, networking and school."
www.youtube.com/seanboshardiii replied: "The wow factor about this netbook is it will be the first netbook released with an Nvidia Ion(9400m). Samsung was able to beat the Lenovo S12 which is also slated to have an option of having the Ion. However, it is rumored this netbook will cost around $800 dollars and Samsung loss special low pricing from Intel on the Atom, because they increased their screen size to 11.6 inches.
However, if this netbook is able to play new computer games which it should be able to since it specs are better then the Asus N10J which could handle many games then this netbook/ultra portable will be the fastest performing netbook on the market.
The concentration should be on the Nvidia Ion and if it will actually perform being an integrated card. Also, if the N280 and 1gb of memory will be a bottleneck for the Ion making it a pointless accessory."

No, this laptop is not good for advanced gaming. It comes with an intel GMA graphics card, which cannot run most modern games comfortably.
If you get a laptop for gaming, make sure that the graphics are at least Nvidia Geforce, or ATI Radeon branded graphics."

Two things I can think of:
1) I want to major in computer science..
2) The only game I would really play is Sims3...I've seen how it runs..it runs smoothly, not perfect...so it'll suffice.
Also..I would be the only one in the household to use a mac..would that be difficult?
*FIVE stars to the best input.

Akir Ikasu replied: "For a computer science major, you could probibly manage with running a late-90s era computer, so pretty much anything you can buy will fulfill that need. And as you said, it runs the game OK. And there's no reason why it would be a problem to be the only one to be running a Mac. Unless you only bought the Windows Version of The Sims 3. :P"
gfx replied: "I think it is a good computer. If you need to develop or use software for another operating system then you can install windows or linux on the same computer. That's what I did. The sims should run fine on the computer. I personally own a macbook pro and other laptop brands and I love my macbook pro. As for the other computers in your house it should be fine."

I would advise you to upgrade the battery to as much a possible (9 cell I think) and also the graphics card to at least 512mb"
dazascooby replied: "get the Dellas it if better spec for the right price, go for the mac and u will get ripped of,
dont no much bout laptops myself but i have a Dell with similar spec and ihave had no problems with it.
Sorry cant be of more help
Happy buying!"
Jay S replied: "mac is definitely one of the best, but to get all the features that you will get with Dell you will have to fork over few hundreds more. You would have to spend twice as much for mac, whether it is worth it depends on who do you ask because there is such thing called loyalty and you will find them on both sides!
Features wise and software that can run on it you will get lot more on Dell for half the price. Dell are great laptops, but mac looks better aesthetically, has better brand and status attached to it, it is prone to less viruses or bugs. There is definitely more peace of mind with mac."
MH replied: "You have got a more fundamental question to ask before you can decide the spec of the laptop - what operating system do you want to use? Are you aware the macbook runs apple's own operating system, rather than windows? You will need to check that all the software you will want to use is available on the system you choose.
Also, I would think about how heavy a system you need to learn - are you going to be doing a lot of complex graphics work, if so then either should be ok (dependant on what operating system you want to go with), if you just want to do basic stuff then you can probably get a cheaper one that either of those. Of course, you will need to try to think what you will want to be doing with it in a year or 2's time too, sometimes it's false economy to get a cheap computer if it's not future-proof."
KONSTANCE H replied: "hi there is a tremendous amount of detail in your range of tech specs, i am not sure that a whopping £800 or an mind blowing £1200 quid.
some programmes need a faster processor and a fairly good video memory and graphics ability but i would be somewhat concerned that you feel that you need to go to such extreams.
a larger screen would make working with images much easier and some desk top type and laptop types have up to a fabulous 19" and up to a fab 21" if your going to work with lots of images i would say try to choose a system that has a large screen.
as for tech specs, i have seen a lot of Apple products but i have to say they are very expensive and i am not convinced that they offer any more for specification than any other computer at a lesser price.
ultamately i cannot tell you what to buy since you have your heart set on a dream machine.
what i can tell you that in the computer stakes there is no such thing as an ubber computer, as the industry changes so fast that new tech is on the market all the time.
if you want to know what your looking for well a CPU at 2GHz would be fast enough to run Photoshop, a core2duo does not imply that the CPU has two core decoders and branch predictors it means that some parts of the CPU micro architechture has been duplicated to make threading or ropes flow more quickly in the CPU system.
graphic tends to be about dedicated and shared, a graphics card that has a dedicated chip on board that runs at a fast speed has a large video memory of at least 512Mb would very easily deal even with the most complex image.
SATA drives are not a new invention so please note that there is a difference between innovation and invention, SATA is just an innovation and a standard the drive works very much like the old IDE drives.
DDR2 and DDR 3 are memory standards and the likelyhood that some are limited to just 4GB is because that is the limit that the motherboard can hold.
typically a photo imaging programme will not occupy a massive 4GB and i doubt that many programmes do.
CD, DVD, Blu Ray, and so there is no difference of any kind if a drive is in a dell machine or a apple machine since the letters relate to a standard that means comformaty to the given disk type.
the largest supplier of drives is Optiarc-Sony-NEC plc."

What do you think of this gaming laptop? Hey, so I have been looking at some gaming laptops and just wanted to know what others have to say about this one (toshibas quality in general, anything else)

TOSHIBA Satellite P305-S8919
17.0" Wide XGA+
1440x900
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550
2.66gHz
1066 FSB

400GB hard drive (5400 RPM)
DVD Super Multi
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (similar performance to 9700m GT)
9 Cell Lithium Ion battery

Let me know what you think!
Trust me, I would like a desktop much better. The reason I'm looking for a gaming laptop is b/c I'm going to be in the military. DDR3 is overrated lol. The processor is better than most available today (dual core for a laptop)
I have looked at the asus laptops on bestbuy, but the G50VT-X5 is now an outlet item :( I have seen the new asus laptops on bestbuy with the GTX 260m, but have heard of heat problems and a messed up bio with no update in site :o
A replied: "get something with ddr3 ram, and if u can an ssd"
Brandon replied: "No laptop is going to beat a desktop. Just get a desktop if you want good Gaming performance. Seriously."
Griz replied: "Pretty decent. T9550 is fast. 4650 HD is decent. 7200 rpm HD would be preferable though"
qluvaas replied: "It should be good and it should run any game. I have an Asus G50Vt-X5 with a Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz and a Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS, its $899 and can run any game at could speeds and graphics, its a great deal for the price, it depends on your budget. You should look at other Asus's at BestBuy.com some may suit you better."
Jeff replied: "Sorry to bust this guys buble but DDR3 is nothing... Only difference is that the heat is SLIGHTLY lower, but that will only affect the games by max of 1 fps. Thats a nice computer, good price and has my vote. Another one to look at is the --- Bigger screen, runs my games at 50 fps average, and its 200 dollars cheaper. If you don't like it you can return it but its a much better buy in my opinion. Toshiba is not a reliable laptop... I've had two break on me, and this acer has been with me for 2 years, no problems. :) Hope I helped!"
chris replied: "Looks ok. Ive been looking at the Asus's offered by Best Buy, but many of them have been having over heating problems and have been discussed on many forums. Check out the reports by consumers before you buy.
I feel for you. I too want a good gaming laptop and dont want to spend 3k on an alienware. I want to game at work and home and school withough having to be tied down with a desktop. I would think just having patience and looking at different sites for comparisons like cnet and gaming sites would offer some more advice as to which system to get, but the one you listed looks great for the games I play.
One thing I do before any other research is checking out the graphics card on comparison sites. Do that first. You most likely can upgrade everything but that graphics card, and that is the focus of your journey. Good luck, and I will be watching and learning with you."
Michael replied: "omg whats up with people that want to game on laptops? laptops cant even do half of what a desktop can do...get a gaming desktop its way more cheaper"
