Alcohol Zyrtec Facts in Questions
Is it safe to drink alcohol after taking Zyrtec 12-13 hours ago? For my seasonal allergies, I take Zyrtec in the morning. Tonight i'll be going to a party where alcoholic beverages are served. If I drink at all, will it be safe? I don't plan on drinking all that much, so I'm thinking that taking it 12-13 hours ago wont really be that bad (the label says with alcohol, drowsiness will increase, but im spending the night there). Anything else other than that should I be concerned about?

hottie phat girl replied: "alcohol metabolizes after 4 to 6 hours you will be fine."

Omar R replied: "yes"

what happens when i drink alcohol while on zyrtec? if i take 1 zyrtec a day and i drink a lot of alcohol is that bad? ive had alcohol while on it before and nothing bad happened. whats the worst that can happen? what will probably happen? how many days would i have to stop zyrtec before i could safely drink alcohol?

Lol L replied: "drink and tell me"

Kevin replied: "nothing will happen"

viewAskew replied: "Cetirizine hydrochloride combining zyrtec and alcohol will make you pass out."

Tim replied: "medication an alcohol is always bad idea to mix . you never know how it will affect you .. can even cause death in some cases."

I took zyrtec this morning, is it ok to drink alcohol tonight? My friends say it's fine to drink alcohol after taking zyrtec this morning, but that stuff always makes me nervous. Is it ok? Please use sources and/or personal experiences.

thebattwoman replied: "I would be more concerned if you'd just taken Zyrtec and then went out drinking. Certainly alcohol can increase the level of drowsiness. You can read more about the side-effects here: Seeing as you took it this morning, then having a drink tonight should be okay, but still I'd certainly limit the drinking and be careful of any increased drowsiness. Have someone available to drive you home if needs be."

if you don't take zyrtec for only one day, can you drink alcohol safely, without concern? i understand the harmful consequences of mixing alcohol and zyrtec but if you are a daily zyrtec user, if you don't take it for a day (and the consequences of not taking it are fine), would it be safe to drink alcohol? i feel like i haven't gotten enough information to make a good decision. i want safety above all, because i've recently started taking zyrtec and haven't had to deal with this before you know... answers are greatly appreciated! thank you.

Angel replied: "Honestly, to be safe just call any pharmacy (walgreens cvs) and ask the pharmacist"

turtleheadfred replied: "First - I'm not a medical professional by any means - so I wanted to clarify that. I take Zyrtec daily - have for quite some time because I have SEVERE allergies - the kind that there's absolutely NOTHING they can do about it short of putting me in a plastic bubble for life! That's not happening so I just deal as best I can... even with Zyrtec - I still have episodes! Enough about me... Obviously with any medication, you shouldn't drink. Having said that - I have - even while taking my Zyrtec - had a drink. No, not at the same time... and I don't drink to excess. But I have had a cocktail while on the medication. The affects I noticed are that alcohol has a greater affect on me... What this means for me is: 1) only one glass of wine with dinner if I'm driving; 2) anything more than one glass of anything I'm NOT driving ever!... even without Zyrtec to be honest!; 3) I will be drunk in 2 seconds! So I would advise to be very careful IF you're going to drink anything at all... you don't know how your body will react - nor do you know how long it will take for your body to get the medication out of your system... everyone's body is different. I'm not sure if that helps you or not - but I would say better to be on the "safe" side than "sorry"... Be SAFE! :)"

Have you ever drank alcohol with Zyrtec? It says on the bottle not to do it...but is one beer ok? Personal experiences anyone?

ladybug replied: "Mixen Alcohol with any kind of medication is never good. Personally I've never had a bad experience. Just don't over do it, if you do do it."

dumplingmuffin replied: "it will be fine, may make you a bit sleepy but i doubt it"

Car in replied: "You are not supposed to becouse of different reactions you might have as an individual, everyone reacts differently. If you are used to taking zyrtec, and it doesn't give you any out of normal range reactions, then one beer should be ok, Definetly DO NOT over do it. Me, persoannly, yes, I have had a drink or two while taking it, and nothing really happened. I also dont drive when I do."

can i drink alcohol with paxil and zyrtec together? thanks, if so how much can i drink ?

Fozzie replied: "No. If you want to sleep for a few days go ahead."

d warrior 37 replied: "how about u dont drink alcohol at all"

craignlee replied: "well, u can. I wouldnt recommend it. im sure the docs wont either but if ya dont mind being completly ripped, go for it. A friend of ours got drunk while on prescription drugs and ended up french kissing the wall!"

KK replied: "When taking any medications is best not to consume alcohol. Your body may or may not absorb the medicines as prescribed or you could have a reaction that could put you in the hospital. You need to ask your pharmacist. He/she is the best person to answer your questions of how much."

AgsFan replied: "Erika...You knew the answer to that question before you posted it. You can't drink wine, beer or mixed drinks with those drugs...not a good idea! Be assured you don't want to find out what the reaction will be if you do!"

lvreddi replied: "Never, ever mix alcohol and medicine, even non-prescription medicine. Even if you have done it once, and nothing happened. All it takes is one time, and you're dead. Alcohol intensifies the effects of medications,ex. alcohol mixed with sleeping pills=intensifies, or makes your sleeping pill stronger. Alcohol with pain pills makes your pain meds stronger. Also, alcohol negates the effects of antibiotics, makes the medication not work."

Elizzabeth replied: "Not a good idea. Call your doctor or pharmacy"

If I took zyrtec a few hours ago (one a day kind) and I drink alcohol...? I know that I'm probably going to be really drowsy and yet can't fall asleep but what else might happen. I can't seem to find anything that would be dangerous on any of the medical websites just " Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of Zyrtec." Side effects: "Dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; fatigue; headache; nausea; nervousness; sore throat; trouble sleeping." And it's been 5 hours.

daddyrx replied: "You can move 'drowsiness' and 'fatigue' to the beginning of your list of side effects and spell them with capital letters."

zyrtec and alcohol and zyrtec and sex drive....need answers please? im 20,male with severe nasal allergy...ive been taking zyrtec for 2 weeks and i feel much better......the doc also gave me flixonase nasal spray......i havent experienced any dizziness or sleep and no sex drive problems yet......i was wondering if anyone else can tell me that what effect does longterm use of zyrtec have on sex drive and i dont feel any dizziness with zyrtec, can i drink like maybe 12 hours after taking zyrtec.......please answer

legalbgl replied: "I take Zyrtec on a regular basis and it has not had a negative effect on my sex drive at all. Also, while I do not drink like I did in my 20s, I do drink and have drank while on zyrtec with no noticable side effect. Although, I caution you to read the warning labels on drinking and medication use and make up your own mind."

momoftwo replied: "I've been taking Zyrtec for about 10 years and I take it just before bed because it makes me dreadfully tired. I take Allegra D in the mornings because it makes me a bit jittery. No other side effects. Good Luck"

Lee replied: "I have been taking zyrtec D for many years at least 8 that I can think of. I have no side effects from it. Even when I go out and have a drink it has no ill affect on me. I have no trouble sleeping either."

Mixing medicine with alcohol? What happens if you drink alcohol while on medicine (for example zyrtec, an allergy medicine), that says don't mix with alcohol?

caffsans replied: "it is dangerous as alcohol increases the pills affect"

Kcr replied: "I took benadryl once and then went out drinking and it was the worst mistake I've ever made. I had people come up to me all night asking me if I was on coke!!! then apparently I kept falling asleep randomly. All medications pretty much say don't take with alcohol. Just like they say, don't mix red bull with vodka, but let's be honest..who listens?"

crashsleds replied: "with some pills it will increase the dose that it should have been. this is not a good thing that should be done. read the bottle some say do not drink more than 1 or 2 drinks.."

CATHY J replied: "That is a big no no. And it could you major problems... Increased heart rate, dizziness, stomach aches, nausea, it very I personaly would not take the chance,"

sarahears replied: "Zyrtec causes drowsiness. Alcohol causes drowsiness. Zyrtec + alcohol = big time drowsiness! Medications say not to drink alcohol while on this medicine for lots of different reasons. For example, Flagyl (metronidazole) plus alcohol equals a horrible reaction where people can become violently nauseated, cramping, vomiting, etc. This is the same reaction that happens when people taking Anabuse drink. Anabuse is used by people with drinking problems to make them not drink alcohol, beause they'll become ill if they drink."
