can you drink alcohol while on cipro for UTI? i'm on cipro for a urinary tract infection. can i have alcohol?

Mommy several times over replied: "Alcohol is a no-no during a UTI. You should be drinking water. Party later - take care of yourself now!!"

Can I drink alcohol with Cipro? Ive been taking the antibiotic Cipro for about a week and still have a few more weeks to go. Im going out tonight and I'll probably be tempted to have a few drinks. Is there danger in this? Is there a limit to how much I should drink (not due to the fact I may get drunk but due to the fact I could die of a toxic combo)?

Susan C replied: "yep...moderation is key..."

iluvsugar613 replied: "no dont drink alchohol u bad person."

Gecko replied: "Cipro may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or light headedness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol"

Cipro (ciprofloxacin) drinking alcohol later in the day? I just started on Cipro and I was on my second day (3rd pill). I took it 5 in the morning and I did not take my afternoon dosage. But I did drink later that night around 10. Was the morning pill still in my system?

Chuck M replied: "Probably not. Even though it is not a good idea to take medications and drink, in this case it didn't hurt you. Taking alcohol and medications affects you in different ways. 1. The alcohol can enhance the affect of the medication on you. 2. The kidneys are one of the organs that cleanse medications and alcohol from your system. Since alcohol is easier to rid, it works on it first, leaving the medication to work in your system longer. This can be detrimental to you as in the case of Karen Quinlan years ago. She took Valium and drank and ended up in a coma."

a n replied: "you shouldn't mix alchol and medication becasue the affect they may have on your digestion sytem adn liver and kidneys."

I am taking Cipro 250 mg for a suspected urinary infection. Can I drink alcohol while im on this ?? Im 28 yrs old and have a christmas party tomorrow. I have been taking them for three of the recommended five days. I feel fine now.

garylees_leelee replied: "No way...when you have a urinary infection you are not to drink babexxxx Good luck...Merry Xmas tooxx"

evilive replied: "no you can't you dumb ass. Oh christ people are stupid."

lynda replied: "It's never wise to drink any alcohol when taking medicine. You never know the reaction, plus some are not as affective when taking alcohol . I think you should stick with lots of liquids, but not the alcohol type. You can still have a good time at a party..."

mistyriver69 replied: "be careful it can cause steven johns syndrome which isn't good."

katlady replied: "alcohol interferes with the antibiotic in your system. you can drink but it is not good because the antibiotic might not clear the infection the way it should. you need to continue your antibiotics until they are gone or there is a possibility of the infection coming back even stronger."

First Lady replied: "No, don't do that! Alcohol, I've read, can actually cause UTI's. You may feel fine now, but you need to finish the meds to ensure that the infection doesn't come back."

I am on the antibiotic Cipro, but I drank some alcohol and had sex. Mistake?? I had sex and two drinks last night, while I am on Cipro for a Urinary Tract Infection. I didn't see anything mentioning I couldn't do the about but now my right side of my abdomen is in pain. I am now on my sixth day of treatment with one more day to go. I made sure I drank plenty of water and pee'd like three times after sex. Should I just call me doctor and get a refill of the Cipro antibiotic? **I didn't see anything mentioning I couldn't to the ABOVE**

Julie M replied: "I just got off cipro... the alcohol isn't the problem, and the sex isn't the problem... however if you were on the pill and didn't use a condom, you may be pregnant."

emma_cide replied: "Alcohol doesn't affect cipro, and I'm assuming you were concerned about sex because of transmission or introducing bacteria. UTIs are not contagious, and you can have sex while being treated, it wont make it any worse."

Alcohol and ciprofloxacin? Can I drink alcohol 3 days after taking cipro? I had an allergic reaction to it, I still have some rashes but I think the medicine is out of my body. What do you think?

Amelia replied: "The reason you can't drink and take Cipro is because the alcohol decreases the effectiveness of the antibiotic. If you're done with the medication, you can drink."

what would happen if.....? my mom wants to know what would happen if she drinks wine (or any other alcohol drink) while taking cipro? (or sipro.... i cant remember how to spell it)

Green day replied: "She would blow up. My brother tried. Not good."

Sarah B replied: "It's never a good idea to mix prescription drugs and alcohol together."

Just found out I am pregnant? I just found out that I am pregnant. I am probably only two weeks along. I'm nervous because I had no idea that I would be. I have been taking pregnancy category D medication (harmful to a fetus - high risk for birth defects), just had a CT scan, drank alcohol and am taking Cipro for an infection. I'm sooooooo scared this is going to mess up my baby. What should I do??? Will my baby be born with birth defects or worse? Can someone help me? I'm going to call a doctor tomorrow, but as it is Sunday I just want some advice.

jeepiegurl replied: "Doctor is the only one you should be asking this too."

jadeniloveu replied: "The same thing happened to me when i first found out that i was pregnant, for me everything turned out ok! Make sure that you stop everything that can harm your baby! Your doctor should be able to tell you whats going on, good luck i hope that you baby is ok and healthy!"

butterflykisses replied: "I really don't think you should worry so much. This is just advice from my own research - certainly not medical. But all that I've read says that this happens quite often, I even had my dental xrays done, a chemical peel on my face and laser hair removal all in my first few weeks of pregnancy. Now that you know, you just need to focus on what you should be doing, get your prenatals in you right away and take them faithfully. Try not to stress, it's really not that bad. Also, there could be a hotline in your area for 24/7 medical advice if you look in your city's directory I'm sure you will find it."

Miztery replied: "I drank alcohol the day before I found out I was pregnant and so far things have turned out ok so try not to worry so much. Just stop doing anything harmful at this point and see your doctor as soon as possible. As far as your medication is concerned, there are options that work with pregnant women so the baby could still be ok. :) Don't worry too much!! It'll only make it worse."

PhunkyGal replied: "I think the best thing you can do right now is to try to stay calm. *Breath* I didnt realize I was pregnant for 6 weeks! I drank during the first weeks aswell and my baby was born soooo healthy and still is very healthy. Just stop everything except the necessary drugs for your infection... As long as you just dont drink anymore. Things should be fine."

annabanana.x replied: "I dont think you should worry to much as I imagine lots of people drink and smoke ect, stuff like that, after they've concieved a child as they dont find out for a few weeks Double check with your doctor though And obviously this goes without saying, but ill say it anyway, make sure you stop all those things (except for the Cipro, which if your doctor needs you to come off he'l let you know tomorrow) and make sure your safe and calm! Congrats! x"

diablo replied: "your doctor will be the best to judge this one just take cre from now on and congrats"

lil_ma_21_04 replied: "idk"

rene replied: "I was told by my Dr. not to worry about what I did before I found out I was pregnant because during the first 4 weeks of pregnancy the baby hasn't totally solidified a connection to moms bloodstream. However he took me off the meds I was on and told me not to drink alcohol or do anything that will harm the baby from that point on. Most women don't even know they're pregnant at 4 weeks so they make mistakes but don't stress yourself just stay healthy and avoid hazards from now on. Good Luck :)"

flobbit replied: "The doctor is the best person to talk to with regards the risks to the child. Once that is established the next question is what you want to do about it, which is dependant on your beliefs and the extent of the risk."

I keep getting either a Urinary Tract Infection or Bacterial Vaginosis it seems every time I have sex? Here some background. Im on the pill & my boyfriend & I have unprotected sex. We have it frequently. It seems like almost every time we have sex I get one of these infections. I went to 2 different OBGYN's & they both looked at me as if I was crazy when I tell them it from sex. I dont drink beer or alcohol, coffee or sodas. I drink plenty of water. When my boyfriend & I have gone through periods of no sex I DO NOT get these infections. I get them so often Ive had to self medicate with Cipro & zithromax. (I had over 15 last year alone and going on my 3rd this year so far) I read somewhere sperm can imbalance the vaginal tract. What can I do? Am I supposed to stop having sex? Ive also done the urinating after sex bit as well. Im so frustrated! By the way, I dont use tampons or douche and I had an IUD but removed it about a month ago because I heared it may be a factor but Im still getting them. I just started the pill immediatley after removing the IUD a month ago. AND YES, WE'VE BOTH BEEN CHECKED ITS NOT AN STD. EVERYTIME I GO TO THE GYN FOR THIS THEY TEST ME & IM NEGATIVE> HE HAS AS WELL.

Lluvia replied: "use protection....your bf should get checked"

Curious replied: "You may have an std so try to just go to a health deptment and have them check for HPV also"

Sarahsmama replied: "It sounds a little silly, but maybe you are allergic to his sperm. Does he eat a lot of peanuts or dairy or something that you are allergic to? Try using condoms for a while and see if the illnesses clear up."

bflogal77 replied: "I can just bet you are. One thing though...you may be causing your own infections. Antibiotics are prescribed for infections...to wipe out the bacteria that is causing infections. You have normal bacteria in your vaginal canal that should be there....by taking Cipro and Zithromax (both heavy duty drugs) you may be killing off the normal bacteria too. Don't do that anymore. Have someone check the PH of your vagina and also the PH of your boyfriend's semen...they may be incompatible. Have you tried using a condom? That also might help. If you don't get satifactory answers from the doctors you have seen, conmsult an OB/GYN."

aleondra_iris replied: "It is possible that you maybe getting it from your boyfriend. A scenario would be like before you had sex he just urinated without washing. Another scenario would be that you both did not wash after urinating and then had sex. It can explain your UTI. Have you ever discussed to your gynecologist that you might be allergic to your boyfriends semen? They can do a protein test. They should have thought of this if you were seeing them constantly. Try using a condom when having sex. If you do not acquire UTI and bacterial vaginosis it may be that you are allergic to some proteins in his semen. There is a therapy for that so you can have sex worry free again. You should mention this to your doctor. And I would suggest to see another gynecologist. Hope it helps."

leamspaulding replied: "You should try to go to the restroom immediately BEFORE AND AFTER sex. This can help to eliminate the problem."

DaveMan replied: "Ok here are a few things to look at (we went through the same) Bacterial vaginosis can come from many things but the most common way is through any exchange of fluids between the vagina and the anus. This often occurs through oral sex, anal sex or manual stimulation involving both the anus and the vagina (even without penetration). Oral sex should be limited to the vagina only (even unintentional contact with the other side can cause issues). UTI is often caused by rough and/or prolonged sex in the "wrong" position. Certain positions add to the irritation which causes UTI. If manual stimulation is a part of your play try to avoid any motion or action that directly infringes on your bladder etc. Please stop taking all those antibiotics.....your body is probably so used to them by now that they've likely stopped working. I hope this helps."
