Doxycycline Tabs Information in Questions
Is Doxycycline and Doxycycline for Vibratabs the same thing? I had to go to another doctor today because I missed my appointment for my derm last week I just ran out of doxycycline for my acne and the doctor gave me a refill. But on the label it says Doxycycline tab for vibratabs and the doxycycline i used to have is called doxycycline tab on the label. I looked vibratabs online and it was doxycycline. Should I be worried or is it just the same thing or just another name for doxycycline?

Ttown replied: "Maybe type your question into google search. If no one can help you here you may find it that way. Good luck!"

what are the side effects of doxycycline for dogs? My shih tzu has lymes disease and the vet gave her doxycycline 100mg one tab daily till gone, this was started on June 22. She hasn't moved her bowels in two to three days. Is this medicine constipating her? I am going to call the vet in the morning but I also wanted to add that I cook all her food, because we lost a pet from the pet food recall. I cook her ground meat, sometimes add rice not always, cause it can bind. I add carrots,or peas, mash potatoes instead of rice. Sometimes she gets roast beef. I process all this in a food processor, and make it the consistency of canned dog food. She has been eating fine. Adopted her two months ago.

cameochis replied: "It may be possible although I don't think the two are related. Give her some canned dog food or some raw hamburger to get her bowels moving again. You could also add a bit of olive oil or even cooking oil to her food. If the problem persists, please talk to your vet. The Doxycycline is really needed to cure the Lyme disease so keep her on it for as long as the vet says. Hope she gets well again quickly."

Bambi replied: "That's a really strong medication, and it would make sense that it's causing this. But I'd call the vet and ask what to do, because 3 days is a long time. Even if it's a side effect of the medication, you have to get her to go soon. Your vet should be able to tell you on the phone if you need to bring her in for an examination or might prescribe something else since they just saw your dog recently."

ananda8star replied: "I work at a Vet Hospital with a Kennel and I have cleaned up after SEVERAL dogs on doxycycline (an antibiotic) who have had NO problem going! I know because I clean up after them. That doesn't mean it's not the case with your dog. Regardless, not having a bowel movement for 3 days is not good and you should talk to your vet. A good laxative for dogs is some canned pumpkin, they like it and it should loosen those bowels up. Give that a try but still call your vet in the morning. Good luck!"

Dara P replied: "I looked at your question earlier before you posted that you COOK all her food. I didn't know if DOXYCYCLINE had a side effect. I was going to ask my doc in the morning. Here's a lil about what I KNOW! My dog is on Doxy because she has tick fever. She has had NO side effects and is doing MUCH better. I am a Vet Tech and have seen many dogs on Doxy and they have had not side effects either. As for cooking her food. I don't disagree with that but you need to make sure she is getting the right amount of Protein and Fiber. From what you said you were feeding her sounds like she is gettin too much protein and not enough fiber... which what most people take (fiber capsules is one form... i acutally drink it) if they are constipated. Fiber will make you go. Since you have only had her for two months... the lack of enough fiber in her diet has probably constipated her. I would suggest increasing her fiber intake... find some food that are high in fiber and mix it with the food you are already cooking for her. I don't think Doxycycline is the culprit tho! I hope I helped."

How does lyme disease affect dogs? I am usually great about checking my dog for ticks, but one day I missed one, noticed it about 3 days later.. I took him to the vet and she says his blood showed semi high "levels" What did she mean? What can I expect.. how will this affect him? She gave me Doxycycline and I've been giving him these tabs once a day for about 3 weeks now. Will he be okay?

lizzy replied: "Lethargy, joint pain, swollen joints, intermittent fever. Doxy is the treatment of choice. Most dogs do very well with treatment, some become chronic cases but it's rare. If you read up on human lymes disease, its pretty much the same for dogs."

sadiejane replied: "he may need a second course of antibiotics. Those ticks are tiny so don't beat yourself up over it. be sure to start giving him yogurt to help the good bacteria survive I would also talk to your vet about starting him on the glucosimine chondroiten msm supplement"

does 14 tablets of 100mg of doxycycline cure chlamydia? (I AM A VIRGIN BUT....)....ok so my BFF since like forever is really embrassed she had sex with her boyfriend and she got chlamidya or whatever and she just went 2 the doctor today and she told me that they gave 4 tabs of doxycyline and she is desperate to know is this effect? please help she is getting on my nerves.......

Jodi D replied: "I have never had an STD, but my guess is... being a Doctor gave her the meds for it. Yes, they should work. But I would definately be retested before being sexually active again. Just to be 100% sure that is gone. Chlamidya can make you sterile if not treated right away. SO PLEASE ASK HER TO BE TESTED AGAIN!"

Elisa replied: "can i ask a question, i need to be tested for something like that, how much did it cost? and i saying that they will work because it was perscribed by the doctor which should be effective. but once the tablets are finished go back and get tested :)"

Snout replied: "If it was 4 tablets taken at once they were probably azithromycin 250 mg, not doxycycline. Single dose azithromycin works very well to cure chlamydia, but her boyfriend also needs to be treated before they have sex again, otherwise she'll just get the infection back."

Problems starting pee? I`ve had his issue for a few weeks when i go to urinate theres a small delay. Its worse when i really need to go. I`m also peeing every 1-2 hours. My water intake is that same - when i do eventually pee i dont feel i have emptied my bladder, the stream is slow also and it stops and starts. I saw my doc and they dont seem too worried. I had blood and urine tests done which came back all clear. The doc perscribed me some doxycycline tabs 100mg. Hasnt really helped. He says i may need a prostate check if it doesnt clear in a week or so. I dont pee as much at night! go usually once as normal but i`m going upto 8 times during the day Any advice or has anyone had similar issues. I`m 26 and in general good health Just an update - i had my prostate checked by my local GP and he says its fine - not enlarged etc. He has reffered me to a Urologist so i`m waiting for an appt to see them. The symptoms havent really improved so its a waiting game til i see the specialists.

Gail replied: "I say you go back to the doctor sooner and tell them that it isn't getting better and you are not getting any relief."

Steven replied: "You might be having a problem with your prostate. I am having issues with mine so I have been taking these prostate bars from. They might help you too, but you should definitely get your prostate checked asap! Good luck"

I am having Urination trouble? I`ve had this issue for 2 months now. I am peeing alot - every 1-2 hours. Also in the last 2 weeks when i go to pee there is a delay - sometimes around 20-30sec other times can be minutes. I have seen my GP - had urine tests done for bacteria which came back clear - Blood test also clear. I was put on some tabs called Doxycycline 100mg but has made no difference. I am drinking the same as usual around 1 litre a day. Also my right teste is sometime blown and looks swelled especially in the morning - docs says its nothing but a cyst. Anyone else have similar issues or can you advise - i`m really struggling to find a cure here and its playing havoc with my life. I am 27 male - in general good health apart from this! Thanks Yes i have been tested for diabetes and this came back clear also. Also tested urine for bugs and blood also clear. The doxycycline doc recommended for any infection? Doc mentioned getting a prostate exam - will be going back this week

jamand replied: "You say you have had urine tests done for bacteria but have you been tested for diabetes....???? THat is one of the firt signs of diabetes or an early indicator to diabetes"

ringoireland replied: "Has there been any talk of a kidney stone? These can delay pee due to blockage, make you feel like you need to pee more and cause you general pain in your lower back. I had one and had similar issues"

★R.I.P★ ★ ☂ ★ MJ!!! replied: "Sounds like diabetis.."

jupiteress replied: "Did the Aliens get you? No seriously this is horrible for you. Go back and annoy your doctor even get a second opinion. I hope this clear up soon. You have reached the age group where doctors decide your over the hill, yes 27. They take an interest when your in your 60s."

johny replied: "Doxycycline is used for people who got acne problems. Doxycycline is a antibiotic. I guess the doctor most have thought you had a infection. go back to the doctors for a second opinion, did your doctor check your r prostate?"

Converting dossages anyone? the question in my physician class packet says... Order: doxycycline hyclate (Vibra-Tabs) 100mg, PO, first day q12h; then 0.1 mg, PO, daily. how many tablet(s) shoult the client recieve daily after the first day? PLEASE HELPPP :(((

John de Witt replied: "Grrrrr! First, your text or your instructor is wrong-headed. Anybody who dispenses to clients instead of administering to patients ought to be horsewhipped. That out of my system, they've tried to muddy the waters by saying 0.1 gm instead of 100 mg, just to remind you that the rectum is the only part of the anatomy in some people. You're giving two pills the first day, and one each subsequent day."

my puppy has kennel cough. is there any i could besides administering the medicine, (herbs, remedies)? i have a 17 week old olde english bulldogge. the vet said it would get worse before it got better. she is hacking up white spit/phlegmish substance, which is not all bad, but it seems like today has been the worst day for her. she is still eating and seems coherent, but just seems really down. i feel helpless because i cannot help her. she did not sleep very well last night and the sleep she mostly had was because i stood up and monitored her assuring her to sleep. the vet precribed doxycycline 100mg 0.5 tabs twice daily and guaifensn 100/dextromethrpn 10mg twice daily. i am currently starting he own a vitamin for her immune system. any thoughts and or answers will be greatly appreciated. rockyfella25 replied: "since she is on medicine you have to just be patient, it will take its course.I had two i got from the pound and they both had it..It takes a long time for it too clear up..Just make sure it continues eating and drinking."

Belovedyond replied: "I'd be careful with herbs. I am NOT CALLING YOU dumb. I am pretty knowledgeable about herbs, but far from knowing everything.. And I believe that giving a pet herbs once may have added to them dying later. It's possible that the sick pet would have died anyway...even likely... but you don't want to do anything that can hurt the pet. NOT EVEN TINY DOSAGE."

I N replied: "hello hello, my dog had kennel cough when i got him from the shelter. my mom's friend is a vet and said you can give it childrens cough syrup, like robitussin. just get a syringe and get about 1 tbsp of it and feed it to your dog like, twice a day. kennel cough usually goes away within several weeks on its own; it's kinda like when a person gets a cold, yenno? so make sure she stays away from other dogs because she's still contagious (but the antibiotics are prolly taking care of that). actually, before you even do this, talk to your doctor to see if the meds will have any effects if used together. hope the puppy gets well soon!"

Can Lyme Disease make you have bad reactions to medications? I had the typical bulls-eye rash from a tick and didn't realize that it was Lyme until like a year later. At that time, I told my doc and he gave me 30 days of Doxycycline, however the side effects were terrible. Fast forward about 5 years, I have a tooth infection that went to my ear and was given Amoxicillin, Ery-Tabs, Keflex and had bad reactions to all of them (chest pain, rapid heartbeat, palpitations, high blood pressure). I asked this question differently before without mentioning the Lyme and someone thought it could be Mitral Valve Prolapse. However, is it common for people with Lyme Disease to be very, very sensitive to medications. I have also been prescribed meds for anxiety and depression and had a bad reaction to like at least 7 or 8 of them. Could the Lyme be fighting the antibiotics? Does that mean I should keep taking them, even though the side effects are that bad? I just got a new script.

bean replied: "maybe you are allergic to a certain ingredient in those medications without sounding rude - are you THINKING that you are going to have side effects? because if you anticipate side effects and start reading the label with side effects listed you can actually talk yourself into having one or all of those side effects...don't read the label until you experience something irregular...I had Lyme in 2003 and I know it's not tons of fun but I haven't had any problems with any medications since then and never read the label because I am the type of person who can talk herself into believing I have every side effect listed I also have Mitral Valve Polapse but I don't think that effected Lyme in any way...your doctor can diagnose that simply by listening to your heart so next time you are at the dr ask..."

vicwhit replied: "As any medication can cause a reation at anytime. Even if taken for many years. The body makes its own chemicals for combating issues at any time. But a reaction to this or even to medication types can happen. Best advice is talk to your doctor. Read up on the meds and effects. WebMD is pretty good for information."

Dekayel replied: "Could be a couple of things going on here. Lyme bugs are spirochetes, which are known for something called a Jarish-Herxheimer reaction. When antibiotics start killing the bugs, the dying bugs give off a toxic substance in your blood stream which makes you feel MUCH WORSE than you did before. Folks with Lyme generally call this "herxing." This requires a balancing act when it comes to taking your medications. You want enough to kill off the bugs, but you don't want to herx too strongly, because that can be dangerous in itself. Those terrible side-effects you had when first treated with doxycycline might well have been a herx reaction. Fast forward 5 years. You were given more antibiotics. If the Lyme bugs are still in your body (and they very likely are) you might in fact be herxing again from the new antibiotics. It's also possible that you have developed allergies to some of these medications. Interesting that you are being treated for anxiety and depression. Lyme can cause anxiety and depression and other psychiatric symptoms. I just heard a presentation recently about psychiatric manifestations of Lyme. The doc said that psych drugs often have an antibiotic effect in addition to a psychiatric effect. He didn't comment as to whether the psych drugs themselves could cause herxes, but it's an interesting question. Lyme is a complicated disease. I suggest you find a doctor affiliated with ILADS (international lyme and associated diseases society) because they have the most experience treating long-term Lyme. I also suggest you educate yourself as much as possible. Good sources of info about Lyme disease:"

The Markster replied: "Yup! Sounds like Herxheimer reaction to ME. The abx you've been starting on can initaite a die-off the disseminated Lyme, causing ALL the symptoms that you mentioned. {I had 3 out of the 4 of those the 1st month I was on meds for my Lyme.} The thing that stands out is you HAD the typical bullseye rash, which means you were nearly certain to have been infected with the Lyme borrellia. After a year, they are disseminated throughout the body where they might not cause problems if your immune system is keeping them in "check". Or...odd pains may pop up here & there, possibly along with a feeling of being tired overall... atleast more than you were before the bullseye ring. HAVE your THYROID TESTED! (TSH level, etc.) It's often affected by this bug. Any doc familiar w/ the disease knows that 30 days of dyoxy at this stage in NO WAY will be the cure- or even the proper treatment. Dyoxy is bacteriostatic in that it doesn't actually lyse (kill) the spirochettes directly but impedes them so that they die out by interfering with their 'growth phase', which- for Lyme bacteria- happens only once every 28 days!!. It really sounds like you need to discuss all this with a Lyme-literate doc (often referred to as an LLMD) so he/ she can take in your whole history/ all med reactions & current symptomology and combine that with bloodwork run at a GOOD lab, looking for evidence of active Lyme infection. Then they can get you on a proper antibiotic program, which is often altered after a few months to attack the bugs from a "different angle." I was fine with a few meds (like dyoxy & Biaxin) in the years BEFORE I got Lyme, reacted strongly/ poorly to them after I was infected & tested + , but can now take them again w/o issue. This is a common story. But follow the doc's instructions carefully. You don't want to dive into the abx too quickly. That can result in major "herxing" & you'll end up in the E.R! (where they won't really be able to do much for ya ANY-way.) If you ARE diagnosed w/ 'late-stage Lyme', you'll need to be on abx for several MONTHS. The GOOD news is that the herxing will get less & less (it usually comes in waves) over the many weeks, until the 'ketes are knocked so far down that you'll be feeling better than you've had for a lo-o-ong time. As far as a M.V.Prolapse, that can account for an occasional heartbeat irregularity, but it doesn't cause that chest pain, rapid heartbeat OR high blood pressure. THAT might very well be a "battle"going on inside you & you DON'T want to "withdraw" early! That's how you end up w/ antibiotic-resistant strains of bugs. Good LUCK!"
