Does anyone else have lucid dreams/out-of-body experiences when they miss a dose of Effexor? I'm on 225 mg of Effexor. If I forget to take it one day, that night I will have really lucid, vivid dreams. I sometimes will have horrible, violent nightmares. But most of the time I have out-of-body experiences. For most of my adult life, I've had these while sleeping, and I think being on Effexor has suppressed them. But when I miss a dose, there the out-of-body experiences (only while dreaming/sleeping) are, back again. It's tempting to skip a dose of Effexor on purpose just to have the OBEs. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true.

fuzzylilhippiechick replied: "I was on Effexor for about a year maybe a little longer and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was suppressing you OBE's ~ I never had an OBE but Effexor sure suppressed a lot of other things, like my ability to remember things, spend time with my family, interact with my pets etc... I hated being on it and gradually weaned off of it. Whatever is going on good luck :o)"

theverve replied: "Yeah i was on effexor for only two weeks, for ocd, obessional thoughts ect. i came off it because i know i can deal with my problem now without it, im in no way knocking you for taking it though! it seemed to help a lot. but the night i went off it and the night after i had very, very, vivid dreams like i had never had before, i did not have an out of body experience but when i woke i had such strong feelings of guilt and just general mixed feelings about my dreams and i had never had that before, i just blamed it on the effexor! dont feel bad for anything youre going through though, i have heard of many people describing the same symptoms you are! out of body experiences i heard are amazing i would like to have one one day, just make sure you dont mess around with your meds too much!! take care"

Wendy G replied: "I'm on the same amount of mg. I have violent nightmares when I miss a dose. I don't know about the out of body experience though. I feel like I have them but I don't like them though."

Will I have any problems stopping Effexor after one dose? My doctor just prescribed Effexor to be yesterday and I took my first dose (75mg) last night. I'm having some side effects (really light headed, dizzy, nausa, not able to concentrate, trouble sleeping) so I thought I should do some research. I've found a ton of terrible experiences from people who have been on Effexor and I've heard trying to go off of it down the road is excruiciating. I've decided against continuing taking this medication. Will i have any problems not continuing it? Thanks.

Christie replied: "After one dose? No problems. Do tell your doctor though."

Seth C replied: "No, you should be fine after a single dose to stop."

Your Assistant replied: "No, you will not have problems taking it and that is my professional opinion. I would not try wellbutrin or those type of drug classes anymore. I would speak to a psychiatrist if you got that from a regular doctor and make sure you stand up for your rights and say I want something different. You may try other meds and also it may take several different tries. It is nobodys fault, so just speak with your doc and get another script for Lexapro or something and I would ask to have an anti anxiety medication until I get used to my anti depressant. Something like Clonazepam (Klonopin)"

km replied: "Until you adjust to the medication, dizziness and nausa are common. It usually lasts about a week. The reason is that the medication is a seratonin booster. All the added seratonin in your system is making you a little off balance and your body needs time to adjust to it. But the trouble is that coming off of it, you have to wean yourself off, because you are lowering your seratonin levels. Just dropping them suddenly makes you feel horrible. Going off of it after one dose won't affect you any. But you might want to talk to your doctor about why you were prescribed it in the first place and if talk therapy might be more benificial to you, if you're dead set against medication. Additionally, you might request a lower dose. Effexor comes in a 23.5mg dose as well."

What are the side effects from skipping a dose of Effexor XR? I skipped a dose the other day and suffered some side effects.

aussie replied: "I take Effexor and I have skipped one day with no side effects. I also skipped a whole week and I had severe side effects. I could'nt function properly had headaches and just felt like crap. You shouldn't just stop taking your medications you have to be weaned off it gradually."

What is a good recreational dose of Effexor XR? I have 37.5 pills of Effexor. I am a guy at 6' 2" 205 with no anti-depression experience.

i ♥ hershey ♥♥♥♥♥ replied: "the 37.5 is cool ♦"

PhuQue replied: "there is no recreational dose for effexor xr..it isn't a recreational drug...you can report me for abuse but I just have to ask "are you stupid?""

Niluh A replied: "are you for real?? effexor won't get you high dude, you're thinking of something else."

Emma replied: "I take 75 mg pills of effexor for depression. I can't see the point in taking them if you're not depressed, because they aren't very effective as a recreational drug. It seems like a weird choice of drug."

Frankie V replied: "Effexor won't get you high; it will just fuck you up, and not in a good way."

Emma's mommy replied: "I am on 150 MG of Effexor XR and seriously, the side effects from it, especially in the beginning are horrible. It makes you tired all the time, your vision is all blurry and you slur your speech. It's really bad. And it made me feel beyond nauseous. It's a medication that yo uhave to start taking the lower doses for a couple days and slowly increase the doses so that it builds up in your body..But if you want to feel something, than take a dose of about 150 MG or so. It's not a good idea but if that's what you want to do, than do it."

Anyone else have to work up their dose on effexor xr? I started at 75...nothing...then to 150...nothing....now I am at 225 mg do you think this will help?

nita5267 replied: "I had to do that with another medication I took - it's a anti-convulsant, but works for both pain relief and as a tranquilizer, helping manic depressive episodes. I went from 50 to 500 mg of that medication. Just follow Dr's orders and let them know if you're having ANY strange side-effects."

DEB A replied: "How long in between each time you up? Are you giving yourself enough time? If the 225mg doesnt work, maybe check with your doctor about another type. good luck."

mark s replied: "The doctors love to give the latest prescriptions that's how they get invited to conventions in places like Hawaii if you don't see any results after about 6 weeks you probable wont with that med. I have tried every one under the sun good ol (generic paxil) works for me wonderfully"

Susas replied: "Most people do."

Heather replied: "I was on 300mg of effexor xr. I kept having to increase to get the full effect also. Is there still nothing at 225mg? If so, then it doesn't seem like the right medication for you. It really helped me at the time but it is hard to come off. Be sure that you don't miss a dose, the physical side effects are awful. The first time this happened to me I didn't know what was wrong. So you will probably have to lower your dose slowly. Are you seeing a regular doctor or psychiatrist? It made a huge difference when I started seeing a psychiatrist instead of using my regular doctor. I love my regular doctor but psychiatrists are experts in this specific area; and a lot more knowledgeable. Good luck!"

Whenever I miss a dose of Effexor, I experience vivid dreams/nightmares that night. Is this normal? I'm on 150mg/daily, taken usually at night before bed. Is it a technical "withdrawal" symptom?

candy boo replied: "yes i had nightmares when i missed a dose."

EmilyJane replied: "Nightmares are common when taking anti-depressants. If youve had or have therapy, is can be acause aswell. But it is normal.. i get them and never skipped a day of my meds. But be careful not to skip any days. it's important to take it everyday around the same time.."

Melissa replied: "I had VERY vivid dreams and nightmares (a bad combo) the WHOLE time I was on Effexor. It made it really difficult to sleep, and I would wake up exhausted and terrified. Actually the worst side effect of the pill for me. The dreams stayed bad and vivid throughout my discontinuation of the pills, and now I have been off them entirely for about a month and my dreams are back to normal!"

making up for a missed dose of Effexor XR 150 mg? i usually take my effexor at 9 am. i forgot to do that today. i tried to make up for it by taking it at noon. did i do the wrong thing? what should i expect? please help!

willie g replied: "Effexor can be given for different reasons either your on it for depression or anxiety either way its ok if you took it a little later than normal. Its even ok to miss a dose you shouldnt feel any different for taking it late."

I am tired due to my dose of effexor. Is there anyway that I can counter act that? I am also on wellbutrin zzzzz

bluzsky replied: "I am on both of those too. In addition, I have "obstructive sleep apnea" which causes "excessive daytime sleepiness" to the extent that I sometimes have fallen asleep waiting for the light to turn green. For this I have been taking Provigil, a alertness drug supposedly given to fighter pilots and soldiers on long, dull assignments. Provigil is very expensive, if you have to pay for it yourself. For me, I give it a B- for effectiveness- it is not working as well as it did at first. What works best for me is good ol' caffeine. NoDoz caffeine pills are cheaper and just as effective as a double latte from Starbucks. I dont suggest going this route if you already drink several cups of coffee a day. In any case, tell your doctor, find a better combination of meds. Being drowsy all the time is no way to live, take it from me. Meds for mental illness, more so than most meds respond differently for each person. Getting the right ones in the right doses is a big balancing act. Don't give up!!"

falling away from me replied: "exercise . you should drink caffein but slowely cut back so your body will learn to wake up everyday with he right kind of fuel your body needs"

Can I switch from the Effexor XR 75 to the generic regular 75 in one dose a day without side effects? ? I have been taking Effexor XR 75mg for about 3 months, the pharmacist told me generic Effexor 75 mg was the same, besides the extended release part. My worry is the effect it would have to take the 75 mg in one dose with a quicker release in my system. I'm out of the XR pills and would need to start on the regular tomorrow, please advice. Thanks THANKS ELLE FOR YOUR ANSWER, AND THAT IS BASICALLY MY WORRY, THAT IS THE SAME Mg BUT IN ONLY ONE DOSE.

elle replied: "It should be the same. Switching from extended release to taking multiple pills instead presents slight problems for some people. But your pharmicist shouldn't be recommending anything that is that different. When they recommend a generic it is generally the same thing."

The One and Only replied: "Yes, you can switch without any side effects. Generic versions of medicines are the same exact ingredients of brand-name drugs, only made by different companies."

kilukalasin replied: "You should be okay. I've gone up and down doses on Effexor (mostly up, dammit) and it's not too bad, so switching to a quicker release shouldn't be too much problem either."

Lea replied: "If you are taking the regular Effexor, you need to take one pill twice a day instead one pill once a day."
