Medication And Ultram Posts in Q&A
Doctor has prescribed a medication called ultram, i took it and was sick for hours. anyone else experience? it is suppose to help my artheritis and muscle pain

RiddleMan123 replied: "Probably just one of its side affects."

sunnie_CA replied: "Yes, I was given the medicine when I fractured my foot. It is quite strong. Make sure you take small doses and with a lot of food. If you still get sick, ask for something else. I did. Hope you feel better!"

sokokl replied: "I have never taken Ultram but talked to others who have used the medication and they didn't have this problem. I would recommend asking your pharmacist if it's ok to take this on a full stomach to see if that helps and also let your doctor know what's going on so that they can evaluate the situation further."

papaw9446 replied: "Evidently the sickness you experienced was probably not a reaction to Ultram, but might be attributed to other causes, unless one or more of the precautions listed below was violated. What is tramadol( Ultram)? Tramadol is an addictive, narcotic-like pain reliever. Tramadol affects chemicals and receptors in the body that are associated with pain. Tramadol is used to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain. Tramadol may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. What is the most important information I should know about tramadol? 1) Seizures have been reported as a rare side effect of treatment with tramadol. The risk of seizures may be increased in patients who take more than the prescribed dose, have a history of seizures or epilepsy, have head trauma, have a metabolic disorder, have a central nervous system infection, are experiencing alcohol or drug withdrawal, or are taking certain medications. 2) Do not drink alcohol while taking tramadol. Alcohol may cause a dangerous decrease in breathing and/or liver problems when used during treatment with tramadol. 3) Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Tramadol may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities. 4) Do not take more of this medication than is prescribed for you. If the pain is not being controlled, talk to your doctor. Taking more than the prescribed amount of this medication could result in seizures or decreased breathing. Ultram side effects Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using Ultram and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: seizure (convulsions); a red, blistering, peeling skin rash; or shallow breathing, weak pulse. Less serious side effects may include: dizziness, drowsiness, weakness; nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite; blurred vision; flushing (redness, warmth, or tingly feeling); or sleep problems (insomnia)."

Sylvia C replied: "Ulltram is a strong narcotic for pain and muscle relaxer. It is a good idea to eat something before you take these strong medications. These meds cause intestinal distress in some people until their body gets used to the med. Your doctor can cut down on the dosage or you can try to get used to the med or you can switch to another pain reliever that does not cause stomach distress. Check with your dr."

lacrosselover replied: "Several years ago I tried it for pain I had from a chronic injury and it also made me feel sick."

Is Ultram the best medication for lower back pain? ? It's not real serious pain, but it mostly hurts when I wake up in the morning.

gracie replied: "It really depends. You need to find out what is causing the pain. If it is arthritis, tylenol might work, if it is muscle pain you might need and NSAID or muscle relaxant. If it is a disc problem you might need physical therapy Ultram is a prescription drug that is similar to opiates like hydrocodone or codeine. Use it only as the doctor tells you and don't take it at times you need to be alert"

michaeljohnkempton replied: "Naproxen is known to help. Ask your doctor about it. Also, try considering sleeping in another position or purchasing an orthopedic pad for your bed. If you have a history of doing exercises such as squats or lifting at your job, knee problems could be a factor in the pain. Make sure you're tackling the right cause first."

ambernericforever replied: "I have alot of back pain. If it is muscular, i use icy hot, or bengay, that stuff is GREAT! if it is bone/joint pain, I use Advil or even Nyquil to help me rest. Try those, and GL!!!!"

DynoDiKk replied: "Ultram is a truly horrible drug in all aspects. you are better off taking real opiates. Type in Ultram sucks on Google and read my friend. and read some of my other answrs, not going through the horrors of this crappy drug again."

Lynn L replied: "It depends, I have a serious back condition, and I have to take muscle relaxers, Ultram, and Percocet. If the pain is really bad, I take Ultram, but if I just cannot take it anymore...like crying really bad pains, that is when I take the Percocet. I would not hurt for you to check with a doctor. Good luck"

Why does Ultram make me rather high? I am sensitive to pain medication, and this stuff lasts forever and ? is great. Why switch though, I like it.

The one and only Jolene replied: "Ok I never heard of Tramadol making you high? Basically, it's tramadol and something else. Usually, people don't have any side effects on this. Maybe that feeling is being caused by something else? I would call your doctor and tell them and maybe they can switch to something else."

Aily S replied: "Tramadol used to make me totally buzzy and spaced all at the same time. In fact, it used to do a lot of things bar kill any pain (lol). Maybe you should speak to your doc, you don't want to get addicted to this kind of stuff..."

squeakyweal replied: "I have heard of this happening, but despite considerable experience with Tramadol myself have never felt anything but a mild tingling, and for a relatively short time at that. I don't find it to be very effective, somewhere between acetaminophen (useless, and toxic) and ibuprophen (useful for certain types of pain). While it does mimic the action of opiates and binds to certain opiate receptors, there's no evidence that it's addictive itself. I guess if people are feeling "high" after taking it, there's some potential for psychological addition."

Has anyone taken the medication Tramadol or Ultram though out your entire pregnancy? I am very well aware that you not to take medication other than Tylenol for pain however I am curious to know if despite that has anyone had to still take this medicine during their pregnancies. (PLEASE DON'T ANSWER IF YOU ARE JUST GOING TO QUOTE THE CATAGORY C INFORMATION AND STATE EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE JUST MENTIONED.) I would really appreciate people’s personal experiences with this drug. If anyone out there has taken this medication throughout your entire pregnancy can you please tell me about it? How did your pregnancy go? Did it cause any harm to your child? There is not a lot of research on this exact medication during pregnancy through out the entire pregnancy and I wanted to get as much research as possible to gather for myself and others that have been concerned with this. Thank you very much

dueinoctwith#3 replied: "I was on tramadol/ultram for stomach pain prior to my pregnancy and took it about 5 times after pregnancy because I didn't know i was pregnant. I told the Dr and he said that they will monitor the baby while i am pregnant and that the risk to my baby will be increased risk of seizures from the use of the meds while pregnant. The way Tramadol works is numbing the nerves in your brain so you can't feel the pain. The longer you take it the more risk there is to the baby in regards to seizures and brain problems. They aren't sure how much other problems it can cause but they do know there is increased risk of seizures. Right now I am only 18 wks pregnant so I can't tell you how this will affect my baby for sure only what the Dr's have told me repeatedly about the meds. The Dr told me the largest risk is use during first trimester but that there is still a large risk during pregnancy. He showed me some research that had been done recently on Tramadol that shows that babies born after repeated use of Tramadol are more likely to have seizure disorders and other learning problems and some have shown signs of heart problems as well. It isn't worth the risk."

How long does ultram stay in your system? I have been using ultram, but I drive a truck for a living and have to take a DOT drug test. I have a valid prescription for ultram, but they will not allow any medication that will make you drowsy. I no longer need this for pain, just curious how long it takes to get out of my system.

TELL ME! replied: "If it's a low dose kind (which I suspect) you are looking at 4 full day with normal water drinking...shorter if drink lot's of water"

Why does no pain medication work for me? I have 3 herniated discs in my lower spine causing nervous pain down my legs. No medication has seemed to work. I have used Tramadol(Ultram), muscle relaxers, Hydrocodone, and now Lyrica but none of them take the pain away and help me sleep. I have seen an Orthopedist and a Neurological doctor as well as had an MRI which I had to be sedated for because laying down hurts.

norton g replied: "Cole, if the neurologist and orthopedic physician cannot provide you with any medicine or non-surgical treatment to relieve your pain, then you have 2 choices. One is to go on stronger pain medicine which could addict you for life, OR to seriously consider surgical treatment, like disc microsurgery to relieve the continuing strong pain caused by the collapsed (herniated) discs Get another opinion, if you wish, but I believe disc surgery may be your only sane option. Good luck."

knox1171 replied: "have they suggested surgery for you? I would definetly go to another doctor and get a second opinion on what can be done for you"
