Is increased anger a side effect of Aricept? My father is 83 and suffering with mild dementia. The doctor prescribed 5 mg of Aricept daily. He has been on it about a month and I am seeing more anxiety and anger than he has ever had. Could this be a side effect of the Aricept?
petra replied: "Anger is usually not a side effect of Aricept, your best bet is to talk to your doctor about your concerns. Depending on what type of Dementia your dad has, there may be stages where anger, anxiety or depression are pretty common."
LeeLee replied: "I don't believe Aricept is the culprit. My grandmother was diagnosed with dimentia/alzheimers. It's my understanding that sometimes dimentia can cause the individual to react in ways that are completely against thier nature. Ex: before the disease they are always calm and accomodating then become irritable and irrational.
This just could be the disease itself progressing.
Please get in touch with support groups, your doctor can give you advice on where to find them. They do help, quite a bit and get as much information as available to you.
Also, talk to your doctor about the differences you are seeing in your father. Talk openly with him, this will give him a better perspective on how the disease is progressing and how to treat it.

Is crying a side effect of aricept? My niece is on this medication, just recently, and has been waking up crying and is also crying during the day.

Does anyone have experience with bad side-effects of Aricept? My mother was given Aricept in a nursing home without our family being notifiedof this. She has been in a very fast decline for several weeks, probably the amount of time she was given Aricept. We have seen her memory, language, and ability to walk and feed herself decline severely. We believe it has been caused by Aricept. We are praying that she will regain what skills she had once this drug is out of her system.

what are the side effects from taking aricept if you donot have dementia? my best friend is taking aricept and getting worse i have known her 30 years and within 4 months she lost 100 lbs. the drs.say she has dementia i donot think she does, it came on too sudden

Can Aricept help memory loss side effects of medications? At least 3 of medications (that I definitely need) cause memory loss, memory problems, and/or concentration problems.
Does anyone know if I could possibly take Aricept (the medication used for alzheimer's) to help these incredibly difficult memory/concentration
problems that interfere tremendously with my functioning and cause a lot of anxiety worrying if I'm going to forget something. I use a ton of visual aid reminders to help with this problem, but I still forget a lot and worry about forgetting things.
I have a lot of education, but I've always had a problem with reading comprehension. I have to read things over and over. It also doesn't help that I have a lot of disturbing things on my mind that interfere with memory and concentration, but I've had this memory problem for years.

septembersong replied: "Accept is prescribed in situations where Alzheimer's is suspected. ADDING it to to meds. you take that may be contributing to memory loss would probably not be helpful. It would only add more to the chemical "cocktail" already existing in your brain.Of course, your need for these drugs must be part of the equation. However, the only one who can decide this for you is your physician. I am not qualified to give medical advice, and am only going by my own experience. Please ask your Dr (and pharmacist if you like) about this, and take the names and the dosages of ALL the drugs you take with you to your Dr. Don't forget that many over the counter drugs,as well as caffeine ( a drug) and alcohol of course have side effects. Some OTC drugs causing memory loss may include NyQuil, Benadryl, Sominex, etc. Good luck."
How effective is the new medication for Alzeimer disease Aricept? Alzeimer patient was prescribed a new medication =Aricept and I wondered whether it is an effective drug or the number of side effects.
majnun99 replied: "New? Aricept was approved for treatment of Alzheimer's Disease in 1996.
My mother took it from about 1999 until her death in 2001. There was no benefit as far as I can tell. Maybe it helps some other people, but I don't think it helped my mother.
I doubt if she really had Alzheimers's Disease though. I think she had Vascular Dementia."
Has anyone used the aricept patch for Alzehimers? We tried the pill but too many problems.? The dr. told us that the aricept patch has fewer side effects than the pill. Does anyone know if it is better? worse? etc...

Every drug effects everyone differently, and also every drug is poisonous to the body as it's a foreign substance, however some are a little bit more poisonous than others are. You may take a Tylenol for your headache and it will cure your headache, but at the same time it will do much damage to your liver.
Some of the side effects of Aricept are:
Nausea -- occurring in up to 11 percent of people
Diarrhea -- up to 10 percent
Headache -- up to 10 percent
Insomnia -- up to 9 percent
Generalized pain -- up to 9 percent
Dizziness -- up to 8 percent
And finally nightmares.
Keep in mind that that all of these side effects are rare and the pros definitely outweigh the cons, but be careful while taking any drug.

i found aricept pills in my step daughters pocket. Are kids taking these pills for fun? What are side effects if a child takes this medicine. She is 16? Having major behavioral problems. Need to know answers.

They are prescribed to Alzheimer patients who have dementia. Some people that are experimenting with drugs will try anything just to see if they can get messed up on it but since I am pretty sure she doesn't have dementia so she most likely is trying them out.
