Tetracycline Dose in Answers
What will happen now that I missed a Tetracycline dose? I'm currently taking a 250 MG dose of Tetracycline 2x daily as an acne treatment. Yesterday night I was at a friend's house and I didn't have the pill bottle so I couldn't take it. Now that I missed a dose, what will happen? Did this mess up the treatment?

Scanner replied: "Some drugs are okay to catch up on, and others are not. Tetra may be okay. Try to keep your doses regular but we all miss. A pharmacist can tell you for sure if it is okay to catch up on Tetra. I believe it is, but check to make sure. Most of the time it is on the bottle. Check the bottle. If you are not allowed to catch up, it will state it with a warning label that says: DO NOT TAKE CATCH UP DOSES IF YOU MISS A DOSE."

Dosing 375mg Tetracycline per 24 hours to 15 gallons for 6 days, how much water should I change daily? Don't worry about filtering that's not relevent. I just need to know how much water to replace purely to reduce levels of toxicity that may be caused by a build up of the Tetracycline over the dosage period of 6 days.

danielle Z replied: "Regular water change of 25%. This is to be done prior to each application. Were you treating for ulcers? Remember no more than 10 days at a time or it could lead to anemia in your fish"

How Effective Are Doxycycline, Minocycline, and Tetracycline in Treating Acne? I'm taking 200 mg of doxycycline a day for my mild inflammatory acne, and I tried lose dose accutane before that, but it failed. Are doxycycline, minocycline, and tetracycline very effective in teating mild to severe acne? I hope this works, because I've run out of options.

Michelle B replied: "Go to Walmart and purchase some sulfer. It's a yellow powder. Mix it with some type of moisturizer and pat it on the acne. I promise it will work...just DON'T get this in your eyes it burns really bad!"

Roger McGee replied: "I noticed very little change after starting tetracycline. I used it for about 3 months, then gave up. I would not recommend it. All in all, it was a waste of money, stained my teeth (a common side-effect of long-term antibiotics), and made my acne harder to treat because it built up a resistance to antibiotics. From what I have heard (And semi-experienced - although I have never tried accutane), the only oral medication that really consistently works is regular to high dosage Accutane, otherwise just stick with topical stuff. Good luck!"

Can a tetracycline influence a lymph node inflammation? ? I'm taking a tetracycline drug for my acne every day twice. I have started to feel flu-ish with slight fever, lightheaded, sore throat and mouth, and have developed a small lump underneath my chin. I am hoping that this is just caused by the clearing of the infection and a side-effect due to the pills. Is a lump normal when taking this drug or should I be worried. I have been feeling nauseated and fatigued everyday I've taken a dose of the pill.

Janaki G replied: "must be the drug is not acting on acne and causing allergy or intolerance. acne is getting more inflamed and lymph gland is protective and indicative that you change line of treatment. do soon"

CaliGirl replied: "That is a broad-spectrum antibiotic and it is killing all of the good bacteria your gastrointestinal system needs for a strong immune system. Are you certain you need to be on it? You should definitely take a pro-biotic if you remain on it. I was on it for years and it didn't help, but it caused a serious candiasis infection that I still have.:*:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7ACAW&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=candidiasis+acne+antibiotics&spell=1 Have you tried Accutane or ProActive? Accutane works great for cystic acne and is short term. ProActive "mask" is a miracle. If you insist on an antibiotic, then put a topical one on your face...don't ruin your body's ecosystem for some thing that will not work."

Tetracycline Hydrochloride safe to administer to rat for Mycoplasmosis? My rat is sick and I have read that Tetracycline can be used to treat Myco, what are the recommended doses and is this entirely safe for him?

RatWild replied: "Yes, tetracycline is safe for rats. The common URI (Upper Respiratory Infections) can be potentially fatal for rats and because of this if your rat is sick it is important to take it to a vet right away without waiting to see if your rattie gets better on its own. URI's are often treated by vets with two antibiotics at once. By treating with 2 antibiotics it creates a better defense than just one alone. What is typically used is: doxycycline and Baytril together for a 10 day period. It will be important to weight your pet rat to determine the dosage and the vet will do this."

iheartminischnauzers replied: "I would ask your vet first. But, if you must know......for an adult rat, you can give .5 cc's. I would still ask your vet."

Is it normail to break out for the first time on tetracycline? i just started my first dose today and my rosacea looks worst..is this normal? does it get worst before it gets better? i also have been taking phentermine..could this be interacting with the tetracycline? Help!! :(

Ruth C replied: "you could be getting hives along with your rosacea. You may be allergic to the tetracycline. See a doctor -- drug allergies can kill you."

CHERYL S3 replied: "tetracycline does make you break out sometimes but you need to report to your doctor. you may have a sensetivity. if you have any fever or itching or burning skin go to the hospital or doctor right away to be sure."

Does Tetracycline work for acne after you stop using it? I have been taking 250mg of tetracyline twice a day for acne. So far it is working very well but my question is what happens when you are finished using the doses? My prescription runs out in march - am I acne free for life or does it come back once your done?

Darren G replied: "It'll be back bro sorry!!"

Madeline replied: "It will come back unless you already by that time have outgrown acne. I don't want to disappoint you but chances are the acne will come back as bad or maybe worse. The whole point of antibiotics is to hold you out till you outgrow acne. It doesn't get to the root of the problem by eliminating it. If you want to continue having clear skin, you have to take them infinetely."

cowboydoc replied: "It's a control, like most anti-biotics. If your not using it, it's not going to work. Once you get into that mature stage where your body will take care of the acne associated with maturing into an adult, you will be O.K."

Tetracycline: is it possible to develop an allergy to this? I have used it before with no illeffects ....I started taking it again (low dose 500mg ) and my face is puffy and red like a sunburn...but when you push in the skin---it does not turn white like a burn? I read that it can cause a sunburn symptom as a side effect? I have stopped taking it . Does anyone know if this can happen? I also was using topical metrondaziole and an OTC acne medicine...could that be it? Any suggestions for reducing the redness in my face?

atomictulip replied: "You can develop an alergy to anything at anytime. So you're gonna have to tell your doctor about this reaction. Only he or she will be able to tell for sure if the tetracycline is the cause for this reaction."

Queen Fromage replied: "Yes I am allergic to it! And Penicillin too and all the derivatives as well and the sulfur drugs so watch out! There are not many anti-biotic I can take now!! It is not easy being green...lol"

NutstersChick replied: "As far as I'm aware & if memory serves me well, tetracycline can make U photo-sensitive. U should avoid direct sunlight. I think U should consult a MD/GP ASAP. I'm not sure about the creams, hopefully some1 here has got their helpful head on & confirm or deny it's the creams."

pegasus replied: "yes, as with any antibiotic, your body may become resistant as well as allergic reaction. Resistance is due to not finishing the drug completely or taking someone Else's' just a pill or two.A true allergic reaction is serious but a sensitivity is not and should not be confused. Change in body chemistry: taking other medications, hormones and especially pregnancy can alter your body chemistry and cause a reaction to any medication. Do not take this drug if you are pregnant ot under age of 18 unless your doctor has prescribed for you. Be carefull while taking this drug: it does not play well with other medications, certain acidic foods and sunlight."

terrieann43 replied: "Sure, my daughter used to take amoxicillan when she was little and then suddenly she started breaking out in a rash all over when she took it and they had to change her antibiotic. I'd ask your doctor all these questions. She'd know if the meds weren't compatible or if you have developed an allergy."

Debbie N replied: "I took tetracycline for several years (off and on) and now I am also allergic to it. My symptoms were red face (looked like sunburn) and skin felt very hot. I also felt like my throat was closing and it was harder than usual to breathe. Be careful! I ended up in the hospital for a week..."

Another Question About Tetracycline? I am in the process of treating my tank for fin rot. I have put three doses of tetracycline in so far and I have one more to go tomorrow. I have also changed 25% of the water tonight and I will change another 25% tomorrow before I return my filter. I also took out my carbon filter(as the directions said) so I understand that my water is somewhat mirky on account of that, but on to my question. Does Tetracycline make your water somewhat mirky since it is a yellow color? Does it also make your water VERY bubbley on the surface? After I put the filter back in tomorrow should I take out all of my decorations and scrub then or is it ok to leave them in there? Thanks for the help!

magicman116 replied: "Yes, tetracycline will cause a yellow color and the bubbles you are seeing in your tank, that's totally normal. No need to remove anything from the tank and scrub it, the carbon will remove the medication within a day or so. You said you have one more treatment to add tomorrow. In that case DO NOT place the carbon back in the filter tomorrow! Wait until at least the day after so the medication has time to work. MM"
