What are the benefits of giving up caffeine? I've recently given up caffeine (second day) and I was wondering what the long term benefits were. So far I've only registered a difficulty getting out of bed in the morning. It might be interesting to hear about any detrimental results also!

Anchor Cranker replied: "Lower blood pressure and you can sleep at night. Mind you if it wasn't for Caffine in the morning my wife would never get out of bed."

mamgu....... replied: "better skin tone, caffeine dehydrates the skin."

jed slade replied: "What made you give up caffeine?i think you already know the answer to your question, time is a great healer."

Normefoo replied: "I found that the best benefit of me is when I need to stay awake 1 cup of coffee goes a long ways."

Miriam R replied: "there are pros and cons to giving up caffeine- here are the cons- caffeine gives you the much needed morning boost studies show caffeine improves efficiency coffee stifles your appetite here are the pros- it improves your skin it greatly improves your sleep cycle no more coffee breath... ick caffeine works on highs and then lows- so you have a lot of energy and then your as lack-luster as the morning hours.. coffee leads to carb cravings all in all- everything is okay within reason a cup of coffee once a week wont do any harm- just don't turn it into a daily habit"

kirralee2 replied: "Caffiene depletes your adrenal glands as it puts your body into constant stress/ fight or flight mode. Whilst you may feel initial energy from caffeine, in the long run you will feel depleted and fatiqued. When you are stressed your adrenals secrete high levels of cortisol. High Cortisol levels is linked to increased weight gain around the misdection which is one of the most unhealthy places to gain weight. Caffeine is dehydrating (note: bad skin, breath) it increases cholosterol levels, inhibits the absorbtion of many vitamins and minerals especially b vitamins and iron. Caffeine is a drug. It is very addictive. Congratulations on quiting. It will take a few weeks before you stop wanting to drink it but by then you should be feeling great. Try green tea instead."

Vu replied: "you'll get a good nights sleep theres one."

Tc and Bj replied: "I would not recommend giving up caffeine quite so abruptly because you're only on your second day and when your body complains - and it will - about the lack of caffeine you'll be tempted to have a coffee or cola to make yourself feel better! I used to drink coffee all day and suffered from awful migraines. I started by replacing 1 mug of coffee with decaffeinated coffee and gradually replacing all mugs with decaf over a period of 2 weeks. The benefits of decaf are; sleeping better, less irritability, smoother, softer skin, improvement in concentration and most importantly for me at any rate. . .no more migraines. Dropping caffeine all at once might work for you but be aware that there is the possibility of problems and buy some decaf if you want to try my method."

red head replied: "You'll lose weight! It will be better for skin and hair! It takes time to feel good about it . Remmber you'll first go threw caffine withdrawel! Good luck"

What are the benefits and detriments of drinking caffeine? Or more specifically, coffee? My boyfriend drinks both coffee and soda everyday. I know coffee has its health benefits, but I've read that too much caffeine can be dangerous. If it matters, my boyfriend has Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and has a very fast heart rate, which I know can be increased by drinking caffeine. Any feedback is greatly appreciated:)

Lydia M replied: "crackers"

jay m replied: "I don't know about the detriments, but coffee definitely helps for all nighters and during exam week."

n0sleep replied: "ur boyfriend needs to stop doing that ASAP, i use to do the same thing and now i feel sick every day for no reason, soda is very bad for your skin too !"

Nicole B replied: "at first they say coffee is bad for you, but then I was watching something on tv one day and they said that coffee can help prevent cancer. But, it could be different with his case because of what he has"

alyoung2015 replied: "It gives a boost of energy, but it can cause heart murmurs, and it may kill brain cells, i'm not sure, about the last on though!"

Cait Cullen replied: "My boyfriend drinks 2-3 cups of coffee a day and NEVER gets a full night's sleep. The smallest noise or shuffle will wake him up, and he has to have the room be completley dark or he can't fall asleep at all! It is how he has reacted to the caffeine because 5-6 years ago he was not like that at all. Caffeine also stunts your growth and can cause heavy mental crashes and exhaustion when it wears off. On the plus side, a cup of coffee in the morning can really perk you up and tastes / smells absolutely wonderful."

Ryan B replied: "that's not good for him"

Brittany replied: "Thats what my boyfriend had. your boyfriend should stay away from caffeine if he wants to live without getting surgery, im serious... that isnt something people should take lightly and mess around with. Tell your boyfriend to get surgery because my boyfriends mom works in a hospital and she has seen people die from it. he had surgery in september and he is alot better now =) ..."

Jack replied: "I have a heart disease which is similar to a murmur. He should not drink caffeine at all if that is his condition. It also turns your teeth yellow!Coffee can kill you The uncontrolled heart beats are the prelude of a heart attack. Soda is bad because it contains high fructose corn syrup, If you haven't heard the news yet...Quantities of mercury have been found in high fructose corn syrup. So I usually drink tea, iced tea, lemonade, water or juice!"

chif replied: "You can call it 3,7-dihydro-1,3,7-trimethyl-1H-purine-2,... OR 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine, but what we are really talking about is CAFFEINE. Caffeine may be the most popular drug in the world. We consume caffeine in coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, some soft drinks, and some drugs. The actual source of caffeine is the coffee bean, tea leaf, kola nut and cacao pod. Pure caffeine is odorless and has a bitter taste.Effects of Caffeine on the Nervous System Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. In moderate doses, caffeine can: increase alertness reduce fine motor coordination cause insomnia cause headaches, nervousness and dizziness In massive doses, caffeine is lethal. A fatal dose of caffeine has been calculated to be more than 10 grams (about 170 mg/kg body weight) - this is the same as drinking 80 to 100 cups of coffee in rapid succession - not an easy thing to do. Caffeine enters the bloodstream through the stomach and small intestine and can have its effects as soon as 15 minutes after it is consumed. Once in the body, caffeine will stay around for hours: it takes about 6 hours for one half of the caffeine to be eliminated. Caffeine belongs to the xanthine chemical group. Adenosine is a naturally occurring xanthine in the brain that is used as a neurotransmitter at some synapses. One effect of caffeine is to interfere with adenosine at multiple sites in the brain including the reticular formation. Caffeine also acts at other sites in the body to increase heart rate, constrict blood vessels, relax air passages to improve breathing and allow some muscles to contract more easily. Some studies show that caffeine causes physical dependence. One way to tell if someone "needs" that cup of coffee or bottle of Coke is to take it away from them and then see if they have any withdrawal symptoms. Typical withdrawal symptoms associated with caffeine are headache, fatigue and muscle pain. These symptoms can occur within 24 hours after the last dose of caffeine. One study has stated that the minimum consumption of caffeine for physical dependence is 4 cups of coffee per day. Other studies say that a few more cups of coffee are needed to develop dependence"

cjt627 replied: "if he has fast heart beat..he should minimize the caffeine.."

What are the benefits of giving up smoking & caffeine? This month I gave up smoking and caffeine. I started smoking when I was 13 (now 21) about a pack a day. I was raised on soda & thats the only thing in our house to drink. I never drank water..only diet soda. Now I ONLY drink water. I want to be as healthy as possible. Can anyone tell me what benefits I will be noticing for giving up these 2 things? Thank you!

Are there any Health Benefits from Caffeine? other than giving you a boost of short term energy, is there anything else?

Teacherlady replied: "It's a great way to control your appetite. Since my response caused such a negative reaction, I will be very serious with you! Caffeine's health benefits range from successfully helping to manage asthma to migrain headaches. It is used as a catalyst in certain medication (excederin) to assist in the treatment of headache and pain relief. According to WebMD..."Caffeine is also what helps in treating asthma and headaches. Though not widely publicized, a single dose of pain reliever such as Anacin or Excedrin contains up to 120 milligrams -- what's in a hefty mug o' Joe." Just a little information for those who do not think caffeine has any health benefits."

xx meep ☮ replied: "No, it's actually pretty bad for you in a lot of ways... it can curb your appetite, though, but that doesn't matter if you're drinking calorie and sugar filled energy drinks or coffees with lots of cream and sugar."

MiNapi replied: "I always thought that it made you feel sluggish after the buzz. So I doubt that there are any great 'benefits' from caffeine other than the buzz you get when you drink it initially."

Wishful Spirit replied: "Taken in moderation it can improve concentration, but too much can cause jitters, moodiness, and insomnia. 200mg (about 1 cup of regular coffee) is the limit. However, some drinks that contain caffeine, such as black and green tea, and coffee, do have some antioxidants that can help prevent colds and help your immune system."

Health benefits to taking caffeine pills? Would it itmprove my energy and speed up my metabolism and help me lose body fat? Sources? Is there a cheaper product with the same benefits or effects? I went to my doctor and he said I have anemia. He doesn't want to give me the prescriptions because of the side effects. I need something to give me an energy boost and that's cheap. I don't like a lot of druits or vegetables. I'm taking multivitamins but it doesn't seem to be working.

believeinme replied: "no. it will not speed up your metabolism.. I would not reccomend it.. It is bad for your health and your heart. Try eating healthy foods for natural energy.. such as fruit. exercise regularly."

Chase G replied: "you should just drink water, to much caffine + working out = bad"

What are the benefits of of adding caffeine to the school menu and what aren't? Why? What are the bad thing about adding caffeine school food menu And what are the good things? Adding caffeine like, coffee, soda...etc..

Robin replied: "Caffeine is bad for you. It is a drug, it can be overdosed on. There is no need for it."

hoss replied: "Caffeine, in itself, is not harmful. In fact, from a physical perspective it is actually quite beneficial as it thins blood and expands arteries to allow more bloodflow, which is good to have when working out. Drawbacks are hyper students, but if adequate physical education classes are implemented, this should not be a problem."

Yahoo! Answers is unavailable... replied: "dude, ask in the school category"

shelly replied: "I heard that coffee works oppisite w/ hyper children ?? I do not think caffeine should be on a school menu cause in fact it is addictive in it`s own right .Let the kids get it at home ..let the parents give it to them .I could care less but what happened to the people who wanted to fight child obesitey>??Damn if caffeine will help !!"

abi replied: "It is bad for children diet especially. Being a stimulant the caffeine causes a fast increase in energy, but a period of exhaustion follows then. A child becomes very disbalanced when uses it regularly and may become dependent of caffeine in order to feel normally. Other type of tonics (not brain stimulants) are much better for child health. Coffee is used by hypotonic adults; also for better digestion after good meal; for stimulation of heart function. Chronic overdose may cause vitamin B1 deficiency with neurological symptoms (similar to alcohol abuse), hair loss, thyroid reaction, heart problems."

Jason C replied: "It has its Pros and Cons, PRO More energy for more work More Concentration (caffeine does that) More Money CON More energy for bad things can't sit still Weight gain"

I was wondering if the Lemon Tea from Dunkin Donuts has caffeine, and if it has any health benefits? If it matters I only take it with one sugar, and for a small or medium I use two tea bags (I like it strong), a large three, and an extra large three or four.
