Timed intercourse with Clomid & HcG Trigger Shot? Hi everyone, I am on my 3rd round of Clomid and go tomorrow for my ultrasound and trigger shot. My husband and I are doing "timed intercourse." We had sex last night -- should we also have sex tonight, or wait until tomorrow? And, how soon after the shot do you need to have sex? My doctor usually recommends every other day for 10 days. Is this the advice you have generally gotten? I want to time everything as perfectly as possible! Lastly, on my second round of Clomid, my follicles were 17 and 18. Is this big enough, or should I hope for bigger numbers tomorrow? Thanks!!

StephanieS replied: "I had luck with just the clomid on my second month and my doctor also recommended having sex every other day which we did the first month but I didn't get pregnant so the 2nd month we did it 1-2 times everyday and I ended up pregnant with twins. The main thing I think stops us from getting pregnant is we dwell on it and once I said whatever it happened so good luck"

queenb replied: "i have the same "get pregnant" plan like you do, but 1st round of clomid. anyways, my doctor said the mature egg is release abt 36 hours after the hcg shot. i was advised to have intercourse every other day for a week, but was also given options that other couples have used. Our choice was to BD the day before the shot, day after the shot and the next day after that. I'm in the middle of my two week wait and it's driving me nuts! Good luck."

Jackie replied: "After the HCG trigger shot, you generally ovulate about 36 hours later. If you had sex last night, and you trigger Saturday morning, I would have sex Saturday night, Sunday morning, and Sunday night. Obviously listen to what your doctor tells you, but that is what I would do. I was always triggered when my lead follicle was between 18mm and 20mm. GOOD LUCK! I know it's a hard road."

Did you have intercourse while taking clomid just in caes you ovulate? or wait til after taking it for 5 days? I'm going to be starting clomid this month and I'm wondering if we should be having intercourse all the time while taking the clomid just in case... or if we should just wait until after i'm done with the 5 days of clomid.

MNH replied: "we didnt do it while i was taking the pills but started the day i finished just incase, even though they said i wouldnt ovulate for five days after taking it we had sex every other day for two weeks just to make sure unless you are opposed to having sex :) it couldnt hurt to try"

Krista replied: "you do not need to have sex while taking clomid, but as soon as your period stops you should be having sex every other day (don't go longer then that!) I am on round two of clomid and I am very excited, CD 11 is what I am on, and we have sex every other day"

when's the best time to have intercourse when on clomid? I've taken in on days 5 - 9 of my cycle. I'm getting kind of tired of trying so hard! This is the first time I've taken clomid.

jugeeangel replied: "You should have sex when you are ovulating. You can check for ovulation in many ways. Chart your temps, check your cervix and cervical mucus and use ovulation predictors. I will tell you that Clomid can give you false positives on the ovulation predictors if you use them while you are taking the pill. My doctor told me to start with day 10 of my cycle and have sex every other day. Trust me I know how you feel about getting tired of trying. We are on month 7 but this is the first month with clomid. catherine j replied: "well u have to have intercourse fromday7-16 while on clomid as u have to start a bit early as sometime being on clomid can make u ovalute early,when i wa prescribed clomid my dr asked me to keep a watch through an ultrasound begining from day 7 and my egg matured early and i ovaluted on 10th day,so taking clomid thus raise ur chances of getting pregnant,good luck"

tabithac21 replied: "Wow...I would think your doctor would have discussed this with you. What a shame. Clomid doesn't really effect when you should intercourse, only makes your ovulation more effective. Assuming you have a 28 day cycle and your luetal phase is normal, your best day to concieve should be day 14. Counting from the day you started your last mestrual period as day 1. Count out 11 days and then have sex nightly or even a few times until day 16. Sperm and eggs can live in your body for 3 days, so if you start on day 11, and your egg drops a little early, you are still safe, and if it drops on day 14, the sperm are still around. Same thing goes for the egg droping late. The later days 13-16 should survive even if you ovulated on day 18 or 19. Good luck, and try not to worry about it so much. Make love with your partner and it will all work out. Just shoot for one of the days between 11 & 14! We had some fertility challenges as well, and I wound up getting pregnant when I stopped trying. My doctors called it the relaxation effect. Best of luck."

Melissa B replied: "Clomid helps you to ovulate. When ttc, you should have sex when you are ovulating. Many women ovulate around day 14 of their cycle, but every woman is different. I took Clomid and my OB had me chart my daily basal body temperatures to monitor whether I was ovulating or not. However, you need to start taking your temp every day from the beginning of your cycle to determine if you ovulate. Therefore, I would just use an ovulation predictor kit. Start using it right away. My OB also advised me to have sex every other day from days 10 through 20 of my cycle. Sperm generally live for 2 days, so it's not necessary to have sex every day. Also, I always took Clomid from days 3-7 of my cycle. I conceived 3 times on it. If you don't like Clomid, there is a drug called Femera that works the same way, but with less side effects. You can use some online free sites such as or baby2see.com they ask for the first day of your lmp, and how long your cycle is, and then gives you a 5 day window. Have sex everyother day around this time (gives hubby a chance to "rebuild") sperm stays alive for 3-5 days do every other day around that time should help. I've been there, and was on clomid...just relax and have fun with it...otherwise it just starts being a chore for both of you."

chipskup replied: "I was on clomid CD5-9 this cycle. They told me to have intercourse every other day starting at CD10-CD20, and to use OPKs from CD10-CD20 also."

Clomid and Intercourse? I am on my third day of taking Clomid. This would be my 7th day of my cycle. My doctor prescribed for me to take 50 mg of Clomid starting on cycle day 5 for five days. This is my first cycle using it. She said to time intercourse for every other day, but she didn't say when to start and I didn't think to ask at the time. So basically if anyone else has used Clomid when did you time intercourse to achieve conception? Should we start the day after my last pill because that would be cycle day 11? I am also charting my temperatures but they are a little all over the place and this cycles chart already looks nothing like the previous months. Could this be do to the Clomid? Also should I use opk along with taking my temp while on Clomid? My doctor didn't suggest using them.

Just Me replied: "I didn't have any luck with temping. I reccommend using ovulation test strips. I buy Answer brand $20 for 20 test strips. It takes the guess work out of it for me, and they're really easy to use. Start testing now, and start having sex every other day now too since you don't know when you will ovulate at all. Continue to have sex every other day until four days after your first positive Ovulation test (some women like me will get a positive for a few days stright). Good luck, baby dust!!!"

chiquita11 replied: "i've read mixed reviews about using OPKs, i read that given that you have to take your temperature first thing in the morning, sometimes when that's not done the results are not accurante, in terms of timing intercourse you could ask your doctor, you can find more info on this at the website in the source where people ask questions to an RE online. good luck!"

asian lilly replied: "I'm 4 weeks pregnant and it took me only one cycle of clomid. I took clomid on day 5 - 10 then check for ovulation on day 12 - 18. I used Clearblue ovulation kit and the doc. said to have sex every other day but i had sex everyday just to make sure that I had intercourse on my ovulation date. I ovulated on day 15, it's different for everyone but mine was on day 15. Try Clearblue ovulation kit, it should work for you, good luck!!!"

pcos clomid lh surge timed intercourse? I have pcos and iam on 50mg clomid Iam on my 4th day of clomid and Iam doing cd's 7-11 todays cycle day 10 when should i start testing for lh surge should i test twice a day and should we have sex everyday or everyother day? Do we have sex the day we detect the lh surge, or wait until the next day?

ppL L0ve 2 hAt3 m3 replied: "normally it is safe to ASSUME that your supposed to ovulate on day 14. BUT we all know everyone's body is different. I started testing the day after the last dose of clomid. When you get a positive reading on an ovulation test it usually means your going to ovulate within 24-48 hours. My advice is to BD everyday. As for testing in my opinion twice a day testing is better. One in the late morning [not the first morning's urine] .. and 1 in the evening. Just to make sure. I've been on clomid 50, 100 and now once 150mg. hasn't worked for me but hopefully it will for you!"

When should i start having intercourse on Clomid days 2-6? I am going to start clomid 50mg on days 2-6, i wanted to know the best time to start being sexually active is? I remember my doctor saying every other day for a period of time but i can't remember when it starts.

I have found this site which is a clomid calculator (site link listed below). you just enter the day you started the clomid and it tells you your fertile days and when to start testing for ovulation if you choose too. Now i can't say how accurate it is as i am just starting my third cycle of clomid and have not had any luck yet...at least it might give you an idea...give it a try and good luck! **baby dust**"

TTC #1 replied: "Start having sex right after your period and do it every other day. I have been on clomid 6 cycles now. With clomid it can cause you to either ovulate early, on time or late. If your using opk's this will help you to know when your best ovulation days are. Each cycle that I have had clomid my RE has also told me to have sex the day before ovulation, the day of and the day after. This ensures there are plenty of sperm waiting on that egg. Look for signs that your going to ovulate, say your cervix is so high and open that you can't reach it, you have extra white creamy discharge, and your body basal temp rises. On Clomid, what days should we have intercourse? I'm finally on Clomid, 50 mg. The doctor wants me to try it for three months. If I don't get pregnant while on Clomid, we will then be forced to go to an infertility Doctor. We are hoping the Clomid works for us! My question is.... when taking the Clomid days 5-9, when is the best time to have intercourse so we do/can conceive?

Gem - little bean due 24/05/10 replied: "You should have intercourse on the day before, day of and day after ovulation. I conceived on my 4th round of clomid. I would definitely recommend charting and using OPKs, so that you can 1. know you are ovulating and 2. make sure you have sex on the right days. Good luck. Now with Clomid i ovulated late around the I7th 0r the 18th. I Started on the 12th and kept takin them and i was like OMG it didnt work but then finaly on the 17th I got a + opk. But everyones different. So start around the 12th and dont stop till U get a + OPK. and OPKs are not cheap heres a website that sells good cheap OPKs U can get OPKs and pregnacys test together OH also just to let U know Clomid has horrid side effects, And it dried me out bad so I used pre-seed the very last month on clomid and got my BFP then. My first & second cycles i didnt use opks i didnt think i needed them. And my third i used OPKs and pre-seed and go my BFP, I also have PCOS and ppl would tell me that OPKs dont work for women with PCos thats why i didnt at first but they do work. They got me my first BFP now im TTC again and im takin Femara and I o so much sooner with femara then clomid but clomid is a wonder pill. I wish U the very best of luck and tons of baby dust"

doughnut1002001 replied: "hiya normally in a perfect cycle you'd ovulate on cycle day 14, but sometimes people can ovulate earilyer or later so for the best possible chance of catching the egg at the right time i'd say do it from days 10 - 20 or everyother day from these days but espcailly around days 13, 14,15 and 16 to keep all options open good luck hunny"

Anyone taking Clomid ever heard of taking Clomid after no menstrual cycle ? Serious answers please....... I am on my 2nd month of Clomid, my doctor prescribed a higher dose (100mg a day) but usually you are supposed to count the days after your last/recent menstrual cycle to start taking the Clomid. My doctor told me to take the Clomid on the 14th of Nov. even if I did not have my period. I am kind of confused in how the clomid will actually work if I didnt have a period. Im assuming that you cant ovulate unless you have a menstrual cycle. Has anyone been asked to take Clomid this way? Does it work or is it a waste of time. Doctors instructions: Take Clomid on Nov 14th, take anyway if you did not have a menstrual cycle. Take a preg. test before starting Clomid. If neg....start taking Clomid. Have timed intercourse 5 days after last day of Clomid. Take preg. test 3rd week of dec. Diagnosed with PCOS in 2002. Also on Metformin (1000mg a day) Have been trying to conceive for 1 1/2 years.

Having your period releases the old unfertalized egg. However, your concerned with ovulating not having a period. You can still ovulate even though you didnt get your period last month. Good luck!
