GAS TANKED REPLACED - Volvo s80 t6? I just picked my car up from having my gas tank replaced in my Volvo. I was getting a reading that i had a minor leak. I went to fill my gas tank up after picking my car up and my gas gauge will not go higher than just under a half a tank. I am pretty sure I filled it up... How alarmed should I be?

thundercrush69 replied: "They must have forgot to re-attach all the wires to the sending unit, take it back so they can fix it. Or they sending unit itself is bad. They will know either way when they drop the tank back out."

rock replied: "installtion was wrong, the float must be stuck , this can happen in the cramped space, were the pump must be reinstalled in the tank"

Nomadd replied: "They put the wrong sensor in the tank."

ucantcme replied: "Take it back and have them fix it correctly this time because someday you will forget about this and most likely run out of gas."

what kind of gas should I put in my volvo s80? It's a used 2001

Matt replied: "flex fuel it helps out a lot"

T replied: "Regular gas with 87 octane rating is fine, unless your manufacturer suggests otherwise. Don't let them fool you with all that Premium gas crap."

Mr Cool replied: "It really doesn't matter what type of gas that you use.... it has to meet certain requirements and standards for the military... gas companies put in their own additives and say theirs is the best and charge more...."

jumbobret replied: "Use what the owners manual says."

Um, Space Ghost?! replied: "Unless otherwise recommended by the manufacturer I would use 87 Octane. There is no need to use anything higher unless your car is Forced Induction or High Compression (or both). More than likely the car is tuned for use with 87 so putting anything higher in there will burn the money in your pocket better than the fuel in your cylinders."

Bridgewater Betty replied: "The 2001 S80 owner's manual states: Minimum octane requirement - AKI 87 (RON 91). It does not distinguish between turbocharged (T6) and non turbo engines, so you should be fine using 87 with either model."

I am looking at buying either a Volvo s80 or VW Passat Wag, which is better overall...gas, maintenance, comfor Thanks

MooCowMan replied: "I don't see many Volvos, but I can say this about VWs. It's good advice to avoid VWs built in Mexico."

superty95350 replied: "I would have to say that the Volvo S80 is a much more amazing car, but it is going to require more maintenance. I'm really not into VWs at all, but if you must the Passat is a decent car and would be cheaper to maintain (fuel wise and a less stringent maintenance schedule) than the S80."

My F150 Truck and my Volvo S80 threw the same codes "long term fuel trim" within two weeks! P1171 / P0171 My Ford F150 acted up first. My wife had driven it about 100 miles and was pulling in the driveway and as she accelerated it started pinging BAD. Then when she parked it, the truck would not idle worth a crap. I checked the codes and none had been thrown (yet) but there was two pending codes. P0171 and a P0174. So these codes are "System to lean" which can be caused by the long term fuel trim being set. I have reset the codes and they keep showing back up and the truck is still running rough. So my wife said to me on Friday, you won't believe this but the check engine light came on for our S80 Volvo. I checked the codes and the Volvo threw a P1171 and a P1181. When I looked up these codes, they were a "long term fuel trim" error. After reading about the possible causes and the codes themselves, they appear to be the exact same errors as what occurred on the Ford F150. What is the odds that two of my cars would throw the same codes within a few days of each other? Pretty low I would guess. So I looked for commonalities. Of course, there is the fact that my wife drove both cars. lol - But she assures me she is not the cause. There is only two other things that are the same. The first is that there is a new school being built across the street from where we live, it is causing a lot of dust this summer. The second is that she filled both cars up at the same location. And so I was wondering if this could be caused by the gas itself. Any ideas? The place we filled up both automobiles is top pretty good fuel producer. The location is a Shell station and I have been using Shell fuel for years. Any ideas why this could be happening? Ford owns Volvo, but the engines are not at all alike between these two cars. Maybe the Volvo was just jealous of the attention I was spending on the Ford and so it threw the codes to get a little care itself. lol Anyway, let me know. Chuck

prkchp replied: "When you ran code for ford and came back system too lean did it give which bank was to lean... Could be bad fuel injector or oxygen sensor is malfunctioning which is telling computer system too lean"

james a replied: "I like the first answer....could it be that the gas that was purchased is a blended gas (ethanol )and your computor can not make the needed adjustments to make it run smooth...burn that gas up and buy some high octane gas,see if that makes it run right, saw this same problem with a nisson maxima and thats what it was"

Whats wrong with my 1999 Volvo S80 T6? The doors and gas cap cover will not unlock on my Volvo. I looked at all of the fuses that may have caused the problem and none of them are burnt out. What other electrical problems may have caused this and how do i fix it?

Gear M replied: "guess on the switch or pulled out wire."

Which car would you recommend: Volvo S80 or Cadillac CTS ( both 2003 models)? Please consider maintenance and gas milage on a college student's budget as contributing factors.

Adam D replied: "Volvo S80- Pros:Safe, Reliable, Comfortable, Decent MPG (Low 20's) Cons:Outdated, Not so much fun, Looks like you will be driving you parents car Overall: You can get one around $11000, Good Car; If you are in your 50's. The S60 is better. It is not as dated, lNot as arge and more reliable with a respectable fuel economy. Cadillac CTS Pros- American Made, Reliable, Good MPG (Round 23MPG) Looks Please Some Cons: Questionable Fit and Finish and Build Quality, Some think it is ugly, Interior Design Consists of loads of plastic Overall: Good Car with some flaws that the European competitors don't. You can buy one of these for around $13000. Bottom Line: The CTS is a better package out of the two. I would recommend taking a look at the Acura TSX or the BMW 3-Series. They tend to be a lot better everywhere, especially the BMW."

whats wrong with my volvo s80 aircon? about 2 weeks ago the aircon on my 02 plate s80 started to make a high pitched noise like an old fridge which was audible inside the car i switched it off and forgot about it but when i switched it on today no noise but no cold air. One of the boys at work had a quick look at it and has told me he thinks it is the condenser radiator as he put a gauge on it and there is no gas in it can this be fixed or do i need to buy a new radiator. On the plate it says that there is a green leak indicator in the fluid but i can not see any evidence of a leak although i have not removed the radiator yet as it looks as if you need to take the front of the car to bits, lights, grille etc and i dont know how big a job that will be. I was looking at halfords web page and you can buy cans of leak stop and gas but im not sure about them will they cause more harm than good? do they work? or do i buy a new radiator without knowing if that is the problem, is this a common fault?

Sasha B replied: "question too long for this time of night. What's wrong with my volvo? Nothing I'm sure everyone is wondering what is wrong with their volva now."

ascoile replied: "You are better to go to Kwik Fit and let them recharge it for you. They guarantee that if they can't decrease the temp at the face vents they don't charge you."

Will S replied: "Why dont you take your car into a reputable repair facility and have the ac system checked out. Never in 40 years have I heard of an ac condensor holding gas, obviously that kid has no inclination as to how an ac system works. Most shops charge 20-30 dollars for an ac inspection. Once you do this, you will know exactly what you need and costs to fix it. Dont just start throwing parts at it as it will cost you more than if you had a professional fix it in the first place."

wrench.monkey replied: "1 Take it to a repair shop. It sounds like you don't have the proper equipment or knowledge to diagnose or repair this car. 2 The green leak indicator stuff is an ultra-violet dye used by repair shops to locate leaks. It can only be seen with a UV light and some yellow glasses. 3 The radiator is part of the cooling system. The condenser is part of the AC system. This should be diagnosed & repaired by a repair shop for enviromental, safety & finacial reasons. If the boy at work replaces some parts, can he evacuate & rechage the system & put the correct amout oil ac oil in it. Will he warranty his work. If he tries and can't fix it are you going to pay him..... find a good independent shop or take it to the dealer. Good luck."

Dean M replied: "Air con gas (refridgerant) escapes quickly, down to the simple thermo-dynamics of a liquid gas. Liquid gas is extermley cold and has to be held under pressure to remain liquid (condensed). Any leak on the system allows the refridgerant (liquid) to heat up and return to a gas. If this has occured, then there is no refridgerant anywhere in the system. Think of it as; if there is no water in your coolant radiator, do you think the rest of your cooling system is still full? Take it to an aircon specialist because the first thing they will test is for leaks ( the machine they use will pressure test while trying to recharge the system...no pressure = a leak). And if it is the heat exchanger (condenser radiator?) mounted upfront , don't worry. You can access this easily by removing the coolant radiator (and intercooler if it's a turbo engine) from under the bonnet not by dimantling the front of the car. And it's not a condenser radiator, it's a heat exchanger. Its designed to help cool the gas that has just changed from its liquid state to a gas. Turning it back into a liquid gas under pressure is dealt with by the compressor/condensor"

car painter replied: "first thing you need to do is get the system checked for leaks and then if your condenser is leaking get it replaced this is not a job for an amateur.the reason you cannot see if it has leaked by looking for the green fluid is because it has probably leaked out very slowly.A friend of mine does air-con repairs for a living and he recommends using air con in the winter as well as the summer as this helps keep the seals from drying out and the system in better working order generally. He advises getting a professional to take a look and to give you a quote to put it right."

What is wrong with my 1999 Volvo S80 T6? I just got this used Volvo for a reasonable price from a car dealership and it is barely even day 1 that I have had the car. This is what happened: As soon as I started it up to leave, the console said I was still in park even though I had the car in drive. It still shifted to drive but said I was still in park... So I turn off the car again and restart it. It doesn't do that anymore. I drive down the street and the brake light turns on... So I fill her up with gas and restart the car yet again... the brake light is off. I drive all the way home thinking my car is just getting used to being on... The car is driving great with no problems... no brake light nothing... I am on the highway... still nothing... Then I get off the highway... I get about 2 miles from my house and the Odometer, Tachometer, Engine Temperature, RPM, and trip meter all turn off... Yes they all turn off... And the brake light is on again.... When I slow down to come to a stop it doesn't stop too good. In fact it is as if I am hitting the gas, brake, and shifting all at the same time even though it is an automatic... Actually trip tonics... It scared me but I turn off the car and turn her back on and she is fine the last two miles to my house. I already had the brakes checked and the dealership replaced the master Cylinder brake panel thingy... So why is the brake light still turning on and why am I losing my Tach, RPM, Temp, Odometer, and trip miles counter? I need help on this as soon as possible... I think this is a problem with the software for the car because... it can't make up its mind...

Jake replied: "Ok, this is common in the S80s. It is an ABS Control Module. Volvo charges 1200 for it. But here's a guy that can fix it for 150. You have to remove it, and send it to him. It's really worth it. "

Tee replied: "Take it back to the dealership and throw the keys at them. I don't know what country you are in but surely there would be laws preventing a dealership from selling a car that at the time is a dud. You should not have to spend a cent in fixing it."

terje_treff replied: "What's wrong with it is that it's a 1999 Volvo S80. this is THE most unreliable vehicle Volvo ever made. Get rid of it..."

I was wondering what someone has paid for a volvo S80 series. Brand New without all the extras.? I wonder if the leather seating is extra or standard with the S80. i do not need all the added on extras . The TMVwhich is what is suppose to be what people are actually paying I believe was around $34,000 on Edmunds. i was wondering if i can get them cheaper than that brand new. Volvo Owner replied: "I Have Leased 2 s80 A 2007 And 2008 The Leather Seats Are Standard The First One I Bought Was Plain Jane And The Second One Is A V8 I Average About 19 Mpg City And Hwy For The 3.2 And 17 For The V8 If You Live In The Dallas area Go To Volvo Of Richerdson Their Prices For A 3.2 S80 Are 31K"
