Does 90% of the caffeine in Tea Bags draw out in the first few seconds? I have heard to get a lovely cup of tea with a lesser caffeine content, you should dip the tea bag in for a few seconds. pull it out and expel the liquid before pouring more boiling water and replacing the teabag to draw. That way most of the caffeine is washed away with the first cup. Is this true?
Jules replied: "I personally don't think so."
fatsausage replied: "Tea Bags only contain the dust from the bottom of the Tea Crates. Buy loose tea."
Buggaboo replied: "Yes, I've heard the same thing."
Tommy replied: "Yes it's true."
how do you take caffeine out of caffeinated iced tea. in the bags.? I have lipton tea bags w/ caffeine but I want it to be decaf.:)
zoemstof replied: "You don't. Sorry."
carpediemmaster replied: "take de caf and shake it real hard upside down"
David W replied: "you buy it decafe, they process it differently,"
Dom replied: "Not possible, you have to buy de-caffinated tea."
It'saseasyasonetwothreeit replied: "Then you have to buy decaf!"
Taterbug* replied: "You cant, you need decaffeinated tea bags"
Luna replied: "I don't think that's possible. Because the caffeination of the tea starts with the fermentation of the tea laves. You would have to buy a decaffeinated variety of tea if you want decaf."
richard m replied: "Buy decaffinated tea if you can. Other then that i dont think there is any way."
Scott W replied: "Sorry, but it is not possible to take caffeine out of tea, try buying decaffeinated tea at your local supermarket"
charisma replied: "you have to click your heels.. wink 2 times.. and say "zirnachibodles" and then you have decaf"
bruce k replied: "i've never tried this, but supposedly if you steep your tea in hot water for about 20 sec., it removes most of the caffeine. then use the bag as usual."
irst_thum replied: "Ummm. Give those tea bags to someone that will use them and buy some decaf. and sorry even decaf a some caffeine in it."
Isolation of caffeine from tea bags? I did a lab where we isolated caffeine from tea bags using extraction, drying, evaporation , and sublimation. I wanted to know what would happen to the caffeine if the sublimation step was performed at atmospheric pressure?
Chad replied: "It would have sublimed if it did not decompose. You pull a vacuum during distillations and sublimnations to make the temperature you need to achieve lower. Excessive heating of a compound often leads to decomposition."
Caffeine in tea bags? Tea bags contain herbal medicines specifically the leaves. These leaves contain caffeine. After doing an experiment on the extraction of caffeine using chloroform, the result showed 0% recovery of caffeine. What could be the possible reason for this? We followed the right procedures and were very meticulous in doing the experiment. The tea bags used were Tsaang Gubat Tea. Does this mean that Tsaang Gubat doesn't contain caffeine?
Please I need your answers and explanations. Thanks!
The Quiet Cool replied: "I don't know anything about Tsaang Gubat Tea but I know a little about experimentation. Have you tried to repeat the experiment using a tea that you are certain has caffeine? This will tell you if perhaps your chemicals are outdated or something. I suppose it is possible to find a tea with an immeasurable amount of caffeine although it's unlikely unless it has been unnaturally altered to remove the caffeine."
jj replied: "try using ethanol.
your solvent might be the problem.
you do realize, that in halogenated solvents, will usually settle on the bottom while the water soluable caffeine floats on top?"
Donald W replied: "Try repeating the experiment with Lipton or Tetley tea bags. They all have caffeine and if they test positive then your answer will be that obviously the Tsaang Guban does not. If the Lipton and Tetley do not show a caffeine content then your experiment protocol is incorrect."
What brand of tea bags has the highest caffeine content? specifically black tea, sold in the UK, e.g. PG tips, Tetley, Yorkshire tea etc.
I heart beets replied: "I think they all have the same amount since they are roughly the same weight. If you want more caffeine, use more than one tea bag."
Krista replied: "There is a little info here"
margarita replied: "All black tea is the same as it all comes from the same plant. Actually, ALL tea comes from the same plant. The longer you steep your tea the more the caffeine. if you want less caffeine, throw out the first steeping and re-use the bag for your cup of tea. Here is a link to an episode of Good Eats with Alton Brown explaining teas. Very interesting. I learned a lot when I saw this episode."
laurel replied: "Longer brewing time for tea, increases caffeine"
The longer you submerge a tea bag in water, would there be more caffeine? I am not supposed to have caffeine in large amounts and yesterday I drank green tea and used the same tea bag 4 times. I started to feel like I was drunk(it wasn't purposely, I forgot about the caffeine in tea). Was there a lot more caffeine than usual because I used the same tea bag?
I can't use caffeine it reacts badly with me.
I heart beets replied: "most of the caffeine is supposed to be extracted in the first 30 seconds or so. So using the same tea bag shouldn't have increased your caffeine intake. You might have been feeling the effects of the first steeping. You might have also felt the calming effects of the tea. I've never felt drunk off of green tea."
RaWen replied: ""Unless specifically decaffeinated, Green Tea contains caffeine. Normal green tea itself may contain more caffeine than coffee, but the length of infusion with hot water and the amount of time you use the green tea leaves can greatly alter your caffeine intake. Experiments have shown after the first 5 minutes of brewing, Green Tea contains 32 mg caffeine. But if the same leaves are then used for a second and then a third five minute brew, the caffeine drops to 12 mg and then 4 mg.""
If I use more tea bags brewing iced tea with the same amount of water, will the caffeine content increase? I am planning to pull an all-nighter tonight, and I have school tommorow at 7:30. I am looking for a way to make a drink with a high caffeine content so I will be able to function in school.
greedy1004 replied: "Yes. Be careful because you may get the shakes and become sick to your stomach if you have too much."
♥ № 1 replied: "yep"
Jane replied: "Yes it will. Leaving the tea bags in the water longer also increases the caffeine amount of the tea."
kdown74 replied: "all the above are correct. I am a caffeine fiend (my only vice, dont drink alcohol or smoke or do drugs) one way for me to ensure i dont get shakes or the notorious caffeine headache or belly is to make sure i have food in my belly when consuming high amts of caffeine. But be advised that with me if i am really tired and drink alot of caffeine I cant seem to stay focused on any single thing or find comfort in any sitting position. I dont know if that is common or not though."
angelcm122 replied: "YES BUT YOU CAN OVER DO IT TOO. BE CAREFUL"
♥vegetarian 4 ever♥ replied: "that is not the best thing to do. get some sleep and drink green tea in the morning."
