Can the side effects of celexa change like this? I've been taking celexa 20mg for about 3 weeks now and in the morning. It used to make me very drowsy and helped me sleep at night. But for some reason last night I coudlnt sleep and it felt like it was keeping me up. Is it possible for the side effects to change like that? Or could it be from something else?

Concludent. replied: "Sometimes things can do the opposite of what they are known for, such as anti-depressants causing suicidal tendencies and sleeping pills keeping people awake. If the Celexa is helping you manage your depression, then I don't recommend stopping the dosage. If it starts to interfere with your life, talk to your GP."

How do you change from Lexapro to Celexa? Is 40 of Celexa the same as 10 of Lexapro? Thanks. Celexa is the generic for Lexapro.

HumanToe replied: "See a doctor before you try this. They will probably want to taper you off the Lexapro before you start the Celexa."

Simon D replied: "What ever your doctor says, lexapro is not for everyone but is said to be 3 times at potent so 10mg of lexapro is about the same as 30 mg of celexa. This is what i was told."

if I'm taking 40 milligrams of celexa, and if I want to change to Prozac, will I be able to start a large dose that would be equvilant to 40 miligrams of Celexa.

thisisanuphillstruggle replied: "why not ask a doctor?????"

☼grundle goat☼ replied: "no because prozac and celexa have different ingredients. you would have to slowly introduce the new drug into your system to see how well you tolerate it before upping your dose. talk to your doc he would know best. but i do know that you are never supposed to start any anti-depressant or mood stabilizer at the peak dosage. you work your way up. good luck to you."

wondryrgrl replied: "When my doc changed my antidepressant, they slowly decreased the first pill then slowly increased the new pill. You can't just stop and start new meds. But you really should talk to your doc about the reasons you want to change meds and the proper way to do so."

Julie B replied: "Hi- Before you change any medication, ESPECIALLY an anti-depressant, it is CRUCIAL that you speak with your Physician regarding this issue. I take Paxil, BUT, again, this is under the supervision of my Doctor. I had decided I didn't care for the Zoloft, BUT AGAIN, I had to go through my Dr. before I changed the medication. There are NUMEROUS anti-depressants out there. Discuss this BIG decision with ur Dr.- It is VITAL that you do this. I do commend you for realizing that you need something to "lift" the cloud to help aid you with ur reasons for an anti-depressant. BUT, PLEASE CALL UR DR. AND GET AN APPOINTMENT MADE- THIS IS IMPORTANT! In the meantime, here are a couple of sites that may help you answer some of your questions. Hope this helped. Have and good day and take care. Good Luck!"

Has anyone ever quit taking their meds and noticed a good change? I was on Zoloft and it made me gain weight so I switched to Celexa and no change. I have taken my self off of the Celexa cold turkey because I am convinced it had increased my cravings for carbs. Has anyone ever been taken off anti depressants and noticed that their weight went back to normal? Thanks.

Valerie replied: "I never gain any weight while on Zoloft. Was on it two months then was taken off."

Katie replied: "omg seriously this doctor i used to go to put me on zoloft and it sorta made me crazy. well really hyper. my mom took me off it and i was soo much better it was like i was another person anways yes :D and i started gaining weight more (im underweight. i can't help it i have an eating disorder) and so basically they took me off it and i was fine! its just that some meds make you crazy and don't want to be in your system. you just have to find the right stuff for you :)"

Chris PL L replied: "I was put on paxil for severe depression, I noticed that all it really did was not necessarilly make me feel better, but emotionally numb. Like a zombie, when I stopped taking it I noticed a big positive change. It was weird it was like this before medication: felt horrible during medication: felt numb after medication: good days and bad days but what also might have triggered the turn around is, i go to the gym everyday and eat very well now, exercise is wicked."

Anyone take celexa? How long did it take before you felt a difference? Did you like it? Did it make your weight change?

tiger1943 replied: "I take celexa now and have for about 4 years. It took about a week for it to begin to take effect. I feel great, and have started to taper off with mydoctors premission. I have not gained any weight as of yet. I may once I am off."

Nicole H replied: "I am on a generic form of celexa. I have been on it for about 6 months now. It's really been helping a TON with my social anxieties. I have gained weight... I really can only attribute it to the meds because not much else has changed. I probably do need to change my habits tho! I do like the drug, it's probably been the best i've ever been on (and I've been shuffled around on many meds in the past 14 years... starting at age 13 with prozac)."

carla b replied: "I've taken it for 7 years, I felt better in three days, but was told it could take as long as three weeks. my weight didn't change any, but it has sexual side effects, like not being easily aroused and delayed orgasms"

Kate M replied: "It started in a week and gradually improved for a month. I just noticed I wasn't all worried and obsessed anymore. It was like I could do what others could do - just "not worry about it," which was once impossible for me. I didn't have any sexual side effects. If anything, it has made it possible for me to BE sexual, because I'm not freaking out all the time. Yes, there was a tendency toward weight gain, but it's manageable. I craved sugar a lot when I got on Celexa. It was summer, and I wanted a Sprite every day, which I would normally never do. So, I just watch what I eat and it's OK. Everyone's different though. Hope it helps you!"

Took Prozac for 4 yrs. after grad. increasing it stopped getting results. DR changed to Celexa 20mg. last week Has anyone switched from Prozac to Celexa w/good results? I know they are both SSRI's but there must be some difference I hope.

Kalin D replied: "I was on celexa for 3 months and it gave me incredible stomach issues and pain so i was taken off of it and it i am now on prozac and the results have been almost the same for me minus the bad side effects, but you have to bear in mind that SSRI's react differently to every person and I think that you should trust your doctor on this one. and if it doesn't then there are always others out there to try."

Robin B replied: "I switched from Prozac to Celexa. I found it quite nice. The side effects are less, such as sexual drive , weight gain. etc. I don't feel anything other than better. I hope this works for you."

When will the sleepiness from Celexa stop? I take it in the AM and cannot stay awake for the life of me. I am approaching my 6th week at 20 mg and have not seen to many changes yet. If I take it in the PM should this resolve the problem? So when (if ever) does the sleepy side effect wear off, and should I still have hope that it is going to kick in? Its very frustrating that I am already so far into treatment and not feeling much : ( Thanks for your answers guys!

heavy thinker replied: "you can try taking it at night before bed, i helped when i was on it. Also hang in there i took about 6 to 8 weeks for it to start working with me and get ready cause when it does your going to feel like a robot no emotion what so ever. I guess its better then anxiety, depression, or ocd though right. I stopped cause it made me gain 50lbs but i seriously need it so im starting today again. When i started the first time i had allot of side effects but they all went away with time, it will feel like your taking nothing cause all the side effects will be gone. Just don't miss a dose cause then you will feel really really weird, and very moody. Anyway good luck and i hope it works for you."

If I change medications will I experience side effects? I've been taking Lexapro for a few years, and I'm going to ask my doctor to switch me to Celexa, which is basically the same, it just has a generic that I can afford, unlike Lexapro. I was wondering if I would experience the side effects that I experience when I stop taking Lexapro, or will taking Celexa prevent those side effects.

dodee replied: "I don’t believe in medicine if you need help without medicine, go to good luck"

Nicki replied: "all medicine has side effects. they all affect people differently. talk to ur doctors before switching. and when u do switch do it when u will have a few days by urself so u can see how it affects u."

Im on celexa and i have a question? when i dont take my celexa (anti depress. and anxiety) is there a change of mood i mean i feel a little different but idk if its all in my head!

vckmdnld replied: "I get more anxious when I don't take mine"

James replied: "Drugs like Celexa stay in your blood for a very long time. If you have been on this medication for a long period of time (2 months or more...) you should not feel different if you miss a dose. If you do feel different, it could just be in your head, but some meds like Celexa cause minor withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking them, but this usually happens after at least a few days or a few weeks...everybody is different."

blueheart replied: "i think that its just all in your head if you think something is wrong then talk to a parent or doc dont worry they know what they are doing"

Daney replied: "You need to understand how these medications operate. The medication is prescribed for you to take at certain times and that is how it operates most effectively. When you stop taking any of these kind of medications, you should do so on medical advice. Your prescribing doctor will know when, and if, the medication should be stopped, or reduced. This is done very carefully, and is a gradual process. Simply stopping it without that help is not advisable. It will in the first instance start withdrawal symptoms, which is probably what you are referring to, and over a short period, you could set off complications which your doctor can tell you about. Keep taking the medication as per the directions and keep in contact with your doctor, advising him of any questions you may have."

mcd1 replied: "Antidepressants can definitely cause side effects if you stop taking or you get off schedule with it. You'll be ok though, just talk to your doctor on Monday & he or she can try a new med that won't make ya moody. You might have to try a few before it works, or maybe none(depending on your diagnoses) I had to go through 5 before it helped me out. Finally, zoloft worked for me. Ask about that & Lexapro if you have to try another one. Good luck."
