does ibuprofen cause water retention? I've noticed that when I take ibuprofen for muscle pain over the course of a few days I'm at least 5-6 pounds heavier. When i cease use of the drug I find that my weight goes back down to normal levels.

MAGiiCSTiiCK11 (Got Deleted) replied: "really!!?? that's pretty interesting"

pickle_tkl replied: "ibuprofen is often prescribed as an anti-inflamatory, so i doubt it causes water retention."

Ahh_Sweet_Boredom replied: "Ibuprofen is actually an anti-inflammatory (a diuretic), so it should make you lose some water weight. I have no clue why you'd be gaining weight while on it; you should probably have a chat with your doctor about it if you're that concerned ."

HAPPY J replied: "That's strange because ibuprofen doesn't cause water retention. You otta go to a doctor."

~*~CHOCOLATE LADI~*~ replied: "i've never heard of ibuprofen causing water retention, but i know if you continue to take them, then over a period of time the pills can cause your stomach line to corrode. so i suggest that you take them as little as possible."

Singing Blondie replied: "I know that ibuprofen has many side effects, as do other pain relievers such as acetominophen.Yes, ibuprofen is known to cause water retention. Salt retention in possible too. See here for more information on side effects of ibuprofen:"

kiki replied: "according to yahoo health, yes it can. it is listed as one of the effects where you should stop taking it and see your dr. this is what the side effects are: If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking ibuprofen and seek medical attention or contact your doctor immediately: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); muscle cramps, numbness, or tingling; ulcers (open sores) in the mouth; rapid weight gain (fluid retention); seizures; decreased hearing or ringing in the ears; yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice); or abdominal cramping, indigestion, or heartburn. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take ibuprofen and talk to your doctor if you experience dizziness or headache; nausea, gaseousness, diarrhea, or constipation; depression; fatigue or weakness; dry mouth; or irregular menstrual periods."

Jackinthebox replied: "No, Ibuprofen does not cause water retention. Ibuprofen is in a drug class known as NSAIDS. Other drugs in this class are Asprin (advil), Naproxin, Acetaminophen (Tylenol). Non of these drugs are capable of causing water retention. Don't forget to vote for best answer."

christnp replied: "Yes, ibuprofen can cause fluid retention. It's listed as a possible side effect."

Kaliko replied: "I definately notice "swelling" and "bloating" when I take ibuprofen for more than a day. It is an allergic reaction. Probably not the best choice for you (or me)."

Ibuprofen cause water weight gain? I just had my Paragard IUD inserted a week ago and was given Ibuprofen 800's to take. My doctor recommended that I take it round the clock 3 times a day and i've been doing that til today. I have noticed that I gained 7lbs in one week. I don't feel any pulge anywhere and kept checking my scale to see if it was wrong (lol) and I even went to the mall on those overweight scales and it gave me the weight that my scale back at home gave me. 7lbs over I have been doing research on the paragard with weight gain and i do not believe it is what's causing it, the only difference in my life that I have been doing is the ibuprofen. I eat about 1200 calories a day and workout everyday for at least 30 minutes (i'm on a weight loss plan). What do you think? On the american cancer society website it says: Ibuprofen can cause fluid retention and worsen heart failure. If you have unexplained weight gain or swelling, stop the ibuprofen and call your doctor. I am going to call them tomorrow, but do you guys think so too?
