Is a used 4 year old Mercedes CL500 Coupe with 30000 miles on the clock with FSH worth buying? In other words what are the repair bills like? are these cars bullet proof? I would hope, being a Mercedes, if i buy one with FSH it should last years and years with only routine servicing required? I live in the UK

Doc. justasinner111 replied: "Yes. I bought a 83 diesel,35mpg interstate,55 mpg. city.Smartest thing I ever did."

Joe replied: "nice car, with good looks. A and B services are not very expensive at all. Just make sure u do everything on time and u should not have problems.Thats very low mileage also."

Andy W replied: "mercedes of 20 years ago cannot be compared to the crap they are pumping out these days. no, a 4 yr old mercedes ANYTHING isnt worth buying unless you can afford constant repairs. A/C Compressor-$1,345 Alternato-$780 Automatic Transmission or Transaxle-$4,210 Brakes-$610 Clutch, Pressure Plate, Bearing Constant Velocity Joints-$2,420 Exhaust System-$1,405 Radiator-$760 Shocks and/or Struts-$6,340 Timing Chain or Belt-$1,050 common problems Air conditioner: The A/C compressor may cycle on and off too often due to a problem in the sensor for the emission control charcoal canister, sending an erroneous signal across the multiplex bus. (2003) Battery: Poor battery charging may be due to a bad voltage regulator in the alternator. (2003) Brakes: Some vehicles have rotors that warp under hard use, which creates heat. New rotors are heavier and withstand more heat. (2003) Engine noise: During hard acceleration, there is a noise from the engine that sounds like piston slap and the noise is eliminated by replacing the motor mounts. (2003) Transmission leak: Fluid may leak from the electrical connector of the automatic transmission. (2003) for those problems alone youre looking at $9,000"

Don V replied: "buy it then sell it after a few months... just to enjoy it... after a couple of months you'd need to sh*t cash with the broken/worn out parts..."

tony q replied: "I bought a 5yr old CL500 with 80000 on the clock, 5 months ago repairs and servicing are not cheap a simple front light bulb replacement cost over £110, and on this car everything needs fixing properly and through mercedes to ensure mercedes assist is valid.for the first 3 months I averaged 250 a month on little fixes, It drinks petrol as well, ave 19 to gallon That said I wouldn't change for anything it is the best looking car on the road, and you get a real buzz when you get behind the wheel and it turns heads, it can move when you wind it up but you never need to. If it is a practical purchase don't, if it is with the heart and for a feel good factor you,ll love it"

Would you buy a 2001 Mercedes CL500 for $20G? its only got 40000 miles on. or would you rather get a new honda or toyota for that money. Why?

Jason M replied: "The early 00s Mercedes look nasty and are lemons.. Even the mid level CL class. I would definitely go with a new Honda Accord Coupe: they are hot, fun to drive, will hold their value, and are oh so reliable."

JustChillin replied: "get it even if you get a honda or toyota they won't have the horsepower of the V8. Also it gets great gas milage to a V8 and it is a Mercedes so you can't go wrong. I looks real clean but try and get a lower price ask them to lower 16000 and bargain for a price."

Cargeek replied: "Try out Driverside. It's still in beta but for each model it has cost of ownership, quality ratings, lists of similar cars, technical specs and links to other sites that will help you out with more data. Also the pricing data by mileage will help you see how good the deal is. "

smarterthanyou replied: "Jason doesn't know what he is talking about! The CL500 is Mercedes Top of the line auto in Mercedes-benz Lineup. The only higher models are the CL55 and CL600! they are all in the same line. While a Honda or Toyota are going to give perceived better reliability, they do not have all the technology that this Benz has. You can't get air conditioned seats in any Honda!! For $20k you'll get a very nice Civic EX or you can get a Low Level Accord. And that is assuming you get a discount! The Civics are selling like hotcakes right now. I would certainly get the Benz. The 20k is a fair price. That car would bring around 19k through a manheim auction. To get one for 16 is unrealistic with the low 40k miles on this one."
