Nissan Micra - oil change? Does anyone know how to check or change the oil? My dad used to do it for me now I'm all on my own! Thanks :)

niall h replied: "open up the hood. there should be a cap with oil wriiten on it. there should also be a dipper there somewhere. to check the oil just put the dipper in pull it out and see how far up the rod does the oil go. to fill it, simply buy a container of oil for your type of petrol at a gas station and fill up the tank. its easy and doesnt take long"

BluesDriver replied: "email me.. i'll change it for you at no extra charge.."

how often should i change the engine oil my nissan micra 1.0? its a 1999 nissan micra 1.0 it has done 34,500 miles 1 owner fsh i just brought it but i am not to sure when to change the engine oil (how many miles) please help

Timbo is here replied: "If you have no service history with it then get it serviced now and then every 5000 miles is good practise."

gsf1200 replied: "Hi there, the recommended service intervals for this K11 Micra are 9000 miles or 1 year. . Hope this helps."

s33753 replied: "If you don't have the service history I strongly suggest that you get it serviced. As per the previous answer the service schedule for the micra's of that type (k11 series) is 9000 miles."

tricky replied: "I change mine every 3000 miles or twice a year depends which comes first. I get my oil from Which is handy a i mail or ring them my car and spec to which they offer the best oil and send through the post, iam not selling for them just they have been handy to use. I just changed mine this week and was well ready after seeing the colour from old to new."

Red Devil replied: "I have a 2008 Nissan Frontier pickup and a 2009 Nissan Murano and the Nissan dealership has me come in for oil changes every 3,700 miles on both of them. I don't know with your 1999 Nissan Micra but as mentioned by others you are always safe at 3,000 miles."

Elliot S replied: "The vehicle manual is the best place to find the best answer. If the engine oil is very dirty, then its probably time to change it. Twice a year wont be a bad idea but in terms of mileage 6000 miles if its heavily used and 10000 miles if its hardly used. That's what I tend to do. I have an N reg Micra too and Nisssan Almera SE+"

Whats the correct oil for Nissan Micra 2004? My micra is due a oil change, what type of oil i should put in and what capacity? Thanks

gary o replied: "check your owners manual, then buy a good name brand"

kilcorkey replied: "Castrol Magnatec semi synth 10w40w....3.5 litres."

Trying to change engine oil of my nissan micra 1997 1.0 manual.? Can see two bolts below. i know which to open but whats the other one for. is it transmission oil or ????

mark replied: "I'm not familiar with the specific vehicle, but if the bolt is on the base of the sump, it's probably holding it on..."

Stampy Skunk replied: "Look for the oil pan directly under the engine...... there should be just one bolt, the drain bolt on the oil pan.... that is what you need to use to drain the oil."

bobweb replied: "The transmission has a recessed drain plug that a 1/2 inch drive socket wrench fits into under the transmission. On top of the transmission is the 3/8 inch square drive fill plug similar to the drain plug that uses a 3/8 inch socket wrench. "

when does the mk2 1999 nissan micra 1.0 need a oil change (how many miles)? and also does the car use cambelt or chain drive thanks

Aaron S replied: "timing is by chain, and oil is best to change every year as with all cars"

Number 6 replied: "Change the oil after every 8000 miles or 1 year which ever comes first. Change the cam belt after every 60,000 miles or approx 7 years."

BARRY B replied: "If you phone a Nissan dealer service department they will be only too pleased to tell you. And the reply will not be a guess as most here will be. Incidentally if you want the car to last you should use semi synthetic oil of the recommended viscosity as it is genuinely superior to standard oil."

gsf1200 replied: "Hi there, By the details you have supplied, you Micra will be a K11 model, this engine is chain driven and the oil needs to be changed every 9000 miles or 1 year. Hope this helps"

My girlfriend has a 1.0l N reg nissan micra. Does anyone know what oil grade and how much I would need.? I have about 4l of part synth 10w-40 left over from another oil change. Is this enough? added: I have no manual for this car. Hence I'm asking the question, cheers.

The Eagle Keeper replied: "Break out the owners manual & read it. It will clearly say exactly how much you need."

tatrafan replied: "The 10/40 oil will be o.k. but I think that 4 litres will be a bit short. Use the dip stick! The one on the car I mean, not you ha ha."

desert camel replied: "i think it takes 4.5L...best use 20w50 for the mirca...asda's cheep stuf will do,bout £6...change the filter aswell."

gsf1200 replied: "Hi there, 10w40 semi synth is the correct grade of oil and DO NOT put any more than 3ltrs in the engine after changing oil and filter and always remember to replace the sump plug washer. I have carried out numerous services to these cars over the years and the level has not increased at all, It has always been 3ltrs to refill with a filter change too!! Hope this helps."

My Nissan Micra keeps stalling when it gets warm. What is wrong with it? My local garage have had it back 3 times, changed oil and air filters, replaced a cracked fuel pipe and still it is not rectified. Another garage has now said the 'electronic tick-over device' needs replacing?? Any ideas?

bobweb replied: "Have the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor checked or replaced. "

Gilberto replied: "it's a nissan micra."

Beachy1 replied: "It might be worth having the Base Idle speed checked by a garage. If it is accompanied by general rough running then the problem could be the Throttle Body. This controls the Idle speed etc. Does seem to be a common problem on Micras."

tegers replied: "try fuel filter its by back wheel in fuel line"

Is it possible that the crank seal oil leak is related to changing timing chain in my 03 Nissan Micra? I had my timing chain replaced in August; following a few probs stalling when cold. At the time I was told that the timing chain had broken. My car has been leaking oil ever since. The leak was noticed & reported within a month of the work being completed. I have taken the car back for oil consumption tests a couple of times and carry a bottle of oil in the car with me these days. On Saturday my car failed it's NCT/MOT as a result of an oil leak on . The garage are now forced to rectify this ongoing problem and are now saying that it is a crank oil seal leak; which is entirely separate to work done while replacing timing chain. The original work cost an arm and a leg and I can't afford further expense; especially if it is as a result of poor workmanship. Does anyone out there have any bright ideas please?

dodge man replied: "yes it is possible because they had to remove the cover ,and may not have got it sealed back up good, they are responsible for it to not leak since they did the work on it,so id take it back and see if they would offer to repair it,those two problems can be related though, that seal should have been replaced when they did the chain on it,a good repair shop always replaces the seals, whether it needs it at the time or not,so they should repair this one at their cost, not yours, good luck with it."

the rocket replied: "The crankshaft oil seal should of been replaced along with the timing chain as a matter of procedure. But this will be pretty to argue about.Check your reciept it will be covered under parts ."

Don E replied: "Could be that when the chain broke, the main bearing was damaged and caused the seal to go bad.If the timing belt or chain was not changed at a specific mileage that was recommended in the maintenance manuel it could be your fault and not your mechanic, however if he beat on the shaft with to great of force he could of caused the damage.Replace the seal and go forward is my recomendation.Without proof you pay."

rowdyyates@btinternet.com replied: "If your timing chain was broken the engine would not run at all. If the timing chain was loose or worn it would have nothing to do with a stalling problem, the engine would just sound a bit noisy. I suggest you go to your local car accessory shop and buy a can of engine oil seal repair, add it to your engine oil and see what happens. Go for a quality brand, Millers, STP, Wynns etc. Good luck!"

idac123 replied: "if the timing chain was replaced then thy should have fitted a new oil seal as it is situated in the timing cover and once disturbed it needs to be renewed and you could not have had a broken timing chain as it would have damaged your engine bent valves etc you have been had by the garage"

nissan micra 1.3 lx HELP!!!!? i have a nissan micra it has just had new spark plugs and leads, oil change ,oil filter change, air filter changed, but now it is kangrooing it wont stop it does it when going less than 30 mph nd also it sounds like the exust is banging what could it be?

Nixta replied: "Sounds like the timing."

Big end gone on Nissan Micra 7 years old 36k miles? driver says always made sure it had oil/oil change. could there be another reason for it? if so - it's made a bit of a rattling noise for a while - could the damage had been done a while ago and just gradually got worse? Is it worth having a replacement engine with 17k miles fitted for £300.00? the rest of the car looks ok. any ideas please? from breakers yard - no guarantee

BARRY B replied: "Very unusual for a Micra big end, or anything else to fail. If you can be sure of the replacement engine's mileage, £300 fitted looks like a very good deal. Use fully synthetic oil at oil changes. It is dearer but will make your 'new' engine last. Trust me."

Timbo is here replied: "Reason is just plain bad luck I reckon. Due to bearing tolerances every now and again one will go like this. That sounds like a good deal for the engine change and there is no way whatever caused it will be on the car then."

MERLIN replied: "racing engine/ lack of oil/or dirty oil filter /or wrong grade of oil/or sitting flat out on motorway for long periods at hi revs or its done 136000mls not 36000 go for 300 engine and try and get good warranty"

stuartalan w replied: "just bad luck is the replacement engine a reconditioned unit with a guarantee or a second hand unit from a breakers yard with no guarantee"

I fink replied: "£300 for a engine with only 17,000 on the clock sounds great, but with no guarantee sounds dodgy. I mean a weeks guarantee would tell you if the engine is ok,surely the scrappy could STRETCH to this. If the engine is good and is running ok apart from the knocking, why not consider having the crank replaced."
