I need to know about the birth control Norplant Implant.....? I just heard about norplant and I did some reseach and i keep seeing stuff about norplant being out in the 90's, n they recalled it a couple of times, but i wanna kno if its out today.. i want to know does insurance cover it? or at least half of it?. i go to a family planning clinic and i get the depo provera for free, so i wanna kno if its gonna be the same, and if it cost more than the depo cuz i see price ranges but its not up to date.. also i keep hearing that its banned in the U.S. n then i hear that its back im so confused !help me plzzz!!!

Whether insurance would cover it would depend on your healthcare program and your insurance provider. Prices depend on what area of the country you live in. I am unsure if it is still called Norplant in the U.S., but there is an implant that seems to be exactly the same thing called Implanon. You can read about this here:"

As for insurance coverage, contact your insurance provider because every plan is different, what my insurance provider would cover, yours might not at all. Your family planning clinic might have it and it might not, give them a call and ask, that should clear up any confusion. I don't know about you, but I'm always leary of birth control methods that have been recalled or have bad press---scares me a little...just make sure you consider all of your options before starting a new method. If you're looking for something different, I used the NuvaRing for about a year and loved it, something to consider as well. Good luck :)"

angel replied: "To tell you the truth i do not recomend it to anyone! I had it and it was a living nightmare! I had it one year to long because i lost track of when i was suppose to get it out but it was also (at least that is what is suspected to be ) the reason that i had two miscarriages in between my two kids. Please do some major research and really think about what you are doing before you try it. It also was very painful when they took it out. It caused alot of problems during the time i had it as well . I am sorry but i just hope you think about it. I am 31 years old and i got it when i was 17 years old and i got it out when i was 22 and it still hurt in the spot where i had it from time to time. so good luck in whatever you decide"

MARISSA Di replied: "Norplant was used extensively in the Maryland area. I know because many girls I worked with used it at one time. It was provided almost free, as it was new. Some recommended it and said there were no problems, although it isn't used very much anymore. For more information, and maybe some real life results, try the Maryland area for Norplant use. ( I don't know whom provided the medical services, Johns Hopkins is a good place to start) Also, the Maryland Health department may provide some information."

Woman who have been ,or are on Norplant...........? Did it hurt to have it implanted? Did you have any side effects? Did your period change? Did you or do you know anyone who got pregnatn while on it? About how much did it cost? I'm considering getting it and I wanted to know what to expect. oh goodness, i didn't know it was off the market. depo is definently out, I took that a few years ago and I gained weight way too fast, (after years of trying to gain a few pounds i gained 60 in less than a year...i was happy with the first 30, but it just keep coming on) and it was hell while it was working it's way out of my system. And I know people who have had problems with the patch and iud's. I may have to stick to the pill.

rebecca j replied: "i have the implant in my arm, its dun with local anasthetic, hurts for a couple of days but its safe, lasts 3-5 years. its a good one if ur bad at remembering to take the pill. im in the uk and here its free as with all contraception. i dont know of anyone whos fallen pregnant while useing it. my periods finally became regular wen i had it implanted."

Essin Em hotmoviesforher.com replied: "Norplant is no longer on the market - it was taken off between 2 and 3 years ago after many women reported negative side effect, sterility, problems with Norplant removal, heavy bleeding, etc. If you or someone you know still has a Norplant insterted, you can of course see a doctor to get it removed, but they are no longer implanting them. However, there are many other forms of hormonal birth control out there; Depo, pills, the patch, the ring, Minverva (hormonal + IUD), etc. Best of luck! Essin' Em,"

can some one with medical experience help me? I have been having this pain in breast on the left side and it shouts up my neck i have been to the doctor and they checked my heart i had a ekg and it was normal .I have norplant in my left arm and its been there for awhile so could it be nerve damage maybe the Norplant is sitting on a nerve ,i am really getetting tired of the pain it worries me but it cost so much to go the doctor.my left breast feels real tender so can someone tell me what it could be

We stopped using those years ago. You may want to do some research on norplant hun. Not trying to give you more worry's but the info on norplants has not been very good. Good luck...oh...but no it isn't the norplant sitting on a nerve as that would radiate down the arm and hand not into the breast."

Danyelle 16wks! replied: "I don't know how much that stuff cost. Have you had a child? Because, they don't like to do the IUD unless you've had a child before. I wanted to get on that, they said they would but they didn't like to because it can cause problems for the uterus unless its already been stretched due to having a child. I was on the ring for a while, I really liked it!! Only had to remember to put it in once a month and take it out once a month."

ne-ne replied: "i heard the norplant was unsafe so i wouldn't use anything like it. I had the Mirena IUD which was free under my bluecross blueshield plan and last for 5 years. I think that would be a good choice. Small and efficient"

Lady replied: "There are so many forms of birth control that you really need to try and figure out something that will work for you. An IUD can be a good choice for some people but the procedure to put it in is very painful. Norplant was taken off the market last I heard, they were having problems with the drug releasing all at once, but I do not know anything about the new drug. Depo-Provera is the shot which is great to only have to think about once every 3 months, but some people do not like shots. The best person to talk to is your GYN. Most insurance that covers birth control will cover all methods the same way, and for many lower income people it can be covered through government programs. All birth control is going to work about the same way and all have similar side effects, but some people react differently to the different hormones involved, so no option is better it is what is best for you."

spooky_licious_girl replied: "I just got the Mirena IUD in January and like it alot. You do have to have had a child to be able to have it though and it lasts for 5 years. It cost $785.00 USD (insertion included) by my insurance company re-imbursed me for it. I guess they figured it was cheaper for them than me having a baby."

@ replied: "Yes, i have had 3 implanons. I am in Australia & they are only $30 for the implanon, then you get your doctor to insert it, which is free if your doctor bulk bills. I think it is more expensive in other countries though. I love it. I dont get a period when i am on it, i dont need to remember the pill & i have no side effects. I think my skin is clearer when i am on it. i recommend it to everyone. i love them."

You must use two forms of birth control if you want to have safe sex, and do not want to have a baby or get a disease. He has to use a condom and Girls must use a hormone based birth control method. ( pills, depo shots, implants such as norplant, Nuvaring, etc). 2. If you are ready to have sex, Girls must plan ahead of time and need to visit a doctor or Health Department BEFORE you have sex.. It will be more embarassing to be walking around pregnant , then to have a discrete visit at the health department. Plan a month ahead to start this. Condoms can be aquired FREE from the health department. But they can easily BREAK. ** Do not just rely on condoms alone. Condoms are a barrier type of control and will help with diseases and use as a back up method along with a hormone birth control. Birth Control Pills - ** very important, If you are starting these for the 1st time, you need to take the entire first month of pills before you have sex. Otherwise, they won't work. Common myths: 1. IF I pull out, she won't get pregnant- False, pre-cum contains hundreds of sperm and she can and will get pregnant. 2. If I use a condom, its cool she won't get pregnant- False, condoms break and when it does all the sperm will go inside her. 3. IF she on her period she won't get preganant- False, unless you know for sure exactly when she ovulates, she can get pregnant at any time of the month. 4. You can't get pregnant in different positions- False , she can get pregnant once you insert your penis in her, even if she is upside down. 5. If I pee first she won't get pregnant- False,, has nothing to do with it, you will still have sperm come out. This one is quite funny actually, peeing before hand has no impact on sperm. Bottom line, if you insert your penis into her vagina at all, she can get pregnant if there is no birth control. ***A pregnancy will cost you 1/3 of your paycheck for the next 18 years!!!
