Some_Guy_in_Ithaca_NY replied: "Please don't say McCain and Viagra in the same sentence....
Both Viagra and Birth Control are completely overpriced in the US. When I was in the Dominican Republic, you could buy Viagra in any bar or pharmacy for about $2/pill and birth control was available in once a month pills and patches without prescriptions. Viagra is certainly used for ED, but prob more than 80% of its use in the US is for functional men who just want to last longer in bed.
But worse is Bush wanting to deny condom distribution in countries with high AIDS rates because it would encourage immoral behavior. Better that people die I guess and children are born orphans with HIV."
ezmee1859 replied: "It doesn't matter that John McCain does not support birth control pills. That is up to the Insurance company. And all Medical Insurances that I have had, cover birth control pills, patches, shots, etc. Even Medicaid covers the pill. So I could care less if John McCain does not support the pill, the Insurance Company's do, and it will always be covered."
Older husband on Viagra: can we still get pregnant? My husband is 52 and I am 24. We have been together for three years and would very much like to start a family. The other day I discovered a bottle of Viagra in his truck and he never told me that he was taking it or was even considering it. I think perhaps he was/is embarrassed to share that with me since I am so much younger than him. In any event, I am concerned because we have been trying to get pregnant for 3 months now with no success. Since I do not know how long he has been on Viagra, could it be the Viagra that is impairing our ability to conceive? I had an ectopic pregnancy six months ago, so I know that I am fertile. Thank you.
Erika G replied: "Viagra won't impair his ability to impregnate you, but, as men age, they have fewer healthy sperm, and so, it may be harder to get pregnant."
viagra being covered by health care? how can mccain support viagra being covered by health care and not birth control? many girls have to start going on the pill for various health reasons, not just to prevent pregnancy, so how does this make any sense?
volleyballchick replied: "Why is it covered?
Because insurance companies are run by old white men in need of such meds! Birth control is not something a man needs, so they don't care about that - but getting that h*rd on? That is another story altogether."
NINTH M replied: "Mccain supports it because viagra is mainly used by old men to have sex with their wives and birth control is mainly used by younger women to sleep around."
maandpas2000 replied: "Ins. Co. will always side with the mans point of view, because their rules and laws that govern them were written by men, for men. They are not going to side with women.
A man's weenie getting ..... well you know, is more important than real health issues, pertaining to life and death, and they say NO to life saving procedures, but will give men weenie medicine."
rod replied: "The medical answer is...erectile dysfunction is a failure of a working system, while birth control is the prevention of a system from working.
So Viagra treats a medical problem while birth control causes a working reproductive system to stop working.
I know, it's crap...but that's the actual rationale behind it."
Viagra vs. abortion? Health insurance? This question was asked to poor old McCain during election!
So, do you think that Viagra being covered and not abortion is sexist?
Why?
Personally, I think ED is a recognized disorder and Viagra is a therapeutic drug. Pregnancy prevention is available in form of OCP and in view of controversy regarding abortion issue, HMOs would be hesitant to cover abortion. That's the logic of it as I understand.
Sheba Jack replied: "Not all insurance companies cover ED drugs such as Viagra. I worked with a woman and her husband took Viagra for ED. The insurance company did not cover it. It must depend on the insurance company.
This was Premera by the way."
dark eyes replied: "Viagra is the cure for a disorder that face a lot of men. Abortion is a choice women make, when they didn't make the right choice to begin with."
Allornothing AKA The Real Mike T replied: "Insurance is a form of socialism. Insurance customers don't pay for medical care.
I'm tired of insurances they can charge however much they want and the do NOT have to show you statistics.
That in itself is abuse of power and authority."
It's That Guy replied: "Consider also that most HMOs don't cover birth control. You have to pay for the pills or whatever yourself. Feminists have said that if -men- got pregnant, abortion would be totally legal. I think they have a good point.
We tend to think of unwanted pregnancy as a woman's problem. We blame single mothers and teenagers who get unintentionally pregnant for being irresponsible (and perhaps they are), but we don't blame the men nearly as much. I even read somewhere that the great majority of pregnant teenagers get pregnant by older guys, guys in their 20s. who you would expect to be more responsible, at least to know how pregnancy happens."
antagonist replied: "No I beleive he was asked about Viagra vs prescription hormones / contraceptives. Aren't those a little closer aligned?"
Colonel Reb replied: "I think it's strange. Neither should be covered in my opinion. That being said, erectile disfunction is a condition you have no control over. Abortion is a choice. So I can sort of see the logic. I still don't get why Viagra is covered by insurance though."
Know It All replied: "I'd say abortion should be covered, while Viagra should be considered on a case-by-case basis."
Imagine Whirled Peas replied: "Viagra and abortion do not treat the same type of condition. Without getting into whether I am in favor of abortion or not, I think it should at least be covered if it is for a health reason, such as the mother's health being endangered. I can't think of a single instance where a man not taking Viagra would endanger his health. Yes, ED is a recognized disorder, but it is not a health issue, it is a quality of life issue. I've got no problem with birth control pills being covered, after all, it at least stems the tide of unwanted pregnancies. If there were a male contraceptive, I would be in favor of that being covered too in the interest of equality. You can't really compare abortion to anything since men do not get pregnant. Not the normal ones, anyway (before someone throws the "pregnant man" story at me)."
TiredOfFemaleTechsOnMaleExams replied: "this is turning into a male/female debate but it isnt
Abortion should be covered ONLY if there is life threatening medical issue. or in the case of PROSECUTABLE report of rape. other than that is pure choice.
ED drugs should be covered AFTER all testing is done to find out why it is happening is it physical or mental. if it is physical if there is a surgical solution that should be addressed. if it is physical without a surgical "cure" then viagra and the like should be covered in limitation via 10 doses monthly (no male would need to have sex every single day of every single month all year long) if it is mental they should be sent to a SEX therapist not a mental health specialist (insurances keep generalizing to many conditions)
The reason on ED is that to many doctors are NOT looking for the reason of ED they just prescribe viagra and ignore the needed testing. from what ive read is if u can get noctural erections it is most likely a mental issue and not physical. but you still need the testing not just straight to the prescriptions
Imagine Whirled Peas --- It may not directly endanger his life but can result in depression and stress which would cost the insurance more money as in mental health appointments and also think of the stress we all know how stress screws with the body if your male or female stress can hurt you bad.
FOR my health insurance company they deny men but provide for females. lets over generalize for a moment
Gender identifying body parts Females - breasts - in the case of full removal the insurance company will pay for recostructive surgery even though its generally cosmetic it is covered for the reason of a females psychological health ( i agree it should be done if she wants it and i dont think it should be classified that its a psychological issue)
male -testicles- removal of a testicle is covered however a fake testicle is not covered (since it is not prominate as a female breast is ) even though it would be put in at the time the origional is taken out. there is no mention of this being covered or not covered due to psychological issues
to me my personal insurance company seems (in my opinion) to be making females out to be overly prone to psychological issues dealing with a physical absence)"
Treffy replied: "It is in no way sexist.
Erectile dysfunction is a disorder. It means that something is not working right. Viagra is a medical solution to a physical disorder. It is a health matter and not just about quality of life. Erectile dysfunction causes much distress. To the level of effecting health even.
Unwanted pregnancy is not a disorder or an illness."
originata replied: "I agree with your assessment. Often times ED is a side effect of greater health problems as well. Last I checked, pregnancy wasn't a disease or disorder."
RoVale replied: "I don't think Viagra should be covered. Impotence in men is usually a symptom of heart disease. Instead of encouraging men to take this drug, they should be told to see their doctors and find out what's really wrong with them before they take this pill and die from a heart attack."
broken angel replied: "Neither should be paid for by health insurance."
Divine Oubliette replied: "That may be true about Viagra but I draw the line at sexual predators being able to get it through Medicare.
Taking a Viagra is a CHOICE, not being pregnant is also a CHOICE. It has been deemed a fundamental RIGHT in this country! Don't like it, don't get one. If you really don't like it, I will pay for a plane ticket to get you out of my country.
~Pro-Choice Momma; Have had an abortion and I have a 7 month old daughter . I believe in protecting my daughter's choice."
Yourface replied: "Yeah, I agree with you. Pregnancy isn't a medical disorder, it's a choice as is abortion. Unless the mother's life or the baby's life is in danger, abortion is a personal choice, having an erection disorder isn't."
rocket from the office replied: "what I think is ridiculous is that hmos don't want to cover abortions and then women who can't afford children end up having to rely on WELFARE to pay for their kids.....
Also - I work as a benefit clerk for a company and I maintenance blue cross - so I know how this works.
You can be raped --- suffer emo/phy abuse and be given the SAME medical benefits as someone who commits a crime and needs rehab for choosing to become addicted to an illegal drug. Trust me, I have seen it happen."
FCB CFC replied: "I don't think it's sexist. LIfe isn't meant to be fair.

Untamed Rose replied: "....o.0
but mccain wasnt asked about abortion vs viagra...he was asked about Birth Control vs viagra. Big difference.
See...
Really...check your facts."
Samuel Cameron replied: "You put it well.
This argument also crops up in the context of whether insurance companies should cover contraceptives for women. Sometimes people seem to lose sight of the nature of insurance and private markets.
Insurance is coverage against the risk of a future contingency for a price, based on the likelihood of such a contingency occurring and the potential cost. In the case of health coverage, the contingency we insure against is a health related disorder cropping up in the future.
Erectile dysfunction is considered an insurable disorder akin to diabetes, liver disease or whatever. But men may have to pay higher premiums to get a plan that covers such disorders, particularly if they are very common.
The use of contraceptives is not a disorder or other health contingency. It is a virtual certainty for most adults. No sane insurer will insure against a certainty. That makes no sense if you ever wish to make a profit.
Abortion is a little trickier. It is not a certainty but is it really the cure for a disorder? Pregnancy being the disorder and abortion being the cure? Hmmm. Plus, one could certainly argue it is an elective procedure (my body, my choice). But perhaps it could be insurable for an additional premium?
I say let the private markets decide."
wendy g replied: "Actually, many insurance companies won't cover birth control, either, as it is not treatment for a condition.
It's also important to note that more than half of those that take Viagra do NOT have a medical condition, or erectile dysfunction, they take it "recreationally" and are prescribed it for that reason.
There is no reason not to cover abortion. It's a medical condition, but I agree with someone else that said it should be covered if there are complications that make it necessary.
If we are going to use the excuse that pregnancy prevention is readily available....well, there are many medical conditions that are preventable. The ONLY reason the insurance companies don't want to cover it is the same reason that they will turn down almost every single claim, initially.... because they are greedy."
Blue-Eyed Christian replied: "I don't think it's sexist. Like you said, ED is an actual disorder. Pregnancy is not. Covering the termination of a pregnancy that is going to kill the mother is one thing; it's medically necessary. But covering one that is done just because the woman doesn't want it? No."
slay247 replied: "It's a moot point. Private insurance companies (the only ones that have a right to exist) can cover whatever they want and what they cover and don't cover is between them and their customers to sort out in their insurance contracts.
If insurance companies want to offer insurance covering abortion and contraceptives, let them, such an insurance plan would command higher premiums than one that doesn't cover those things but it is up to the individual to decide if they wish to purchase the extra coverage."

Does viagra or levitra make sperm stronger? Does taking these pills make likelihood of pregnancy greater?
Colleen O replied: "No, they are only for erectile dysfunction not a sperm "booster"."
cutiekid2009 replied: "no they don't"
Gracie replied: "no, they make you erect. not increase your sperm count"
Jayme c replied: "Hi
Viagra andlevitra are meds for ED. The only time they are used in infertility is ... surprise!!! for WOMEN!!!
Viagra has shown to help support the production of pregesterone in women... making the lining of the uterus thicker making it a better environment for the egg to implant.
these meds will not increase fertility.
clomid is a female infertility drug... this can also be use to increase sperm count"
XrrX replied: "Viagra (sildenafil) cialis (tadalafil) levitra (vardenafil) is used to treat erectile dysfunction. In a simple word if you can make an erection then they may help"
