Is 12.5 mg of promethazine (phenergan) suppository the common dosage for a 3 yr old? Thats what the script says, but that just seemed like a lot to me...I would call the doc but they are closed?

Promethegan (Promethazine) Suppositories for morning sickness? I called my RE today just to get tips on managing morning sickness. Well, instead they prescribed Promethegan suppositories for me saying that would help. The nurse said they were safe. Well I got them, but after googling them, found they are a pregnancy class C drug - not proved as safe yet. No matter how sick I feel, I won't take something that might hurt my baby. Anyone know anything about them?

Can you use PROMETHAZINE HYDROCHLORIDE. SUPPOSITORIES in your vagina? The Pharmacist suggested if I did not feel comfy with his theory. Just thought I would ask others! Do they make on for vaganial insert. Just want to know before I talk to my DR again.

On the other way i know that promethazine can be used as un spermicide. And it's a problem, suppositories may not release the active drug at the vaginal level because they are formulated for the rectal mucosa."

Alli replied: "I would have to say no. They are suppositories which means they go in your bottom not your vagina. I don't know why the pharmacist suggested that. Are you sure that is what he said? Promethazine is an antihistamine and also used to control nausea and vomiting, and to prevent motion sickness. Is there any reason you can't take a tablet? Promethazine comes in a 25mg tablet. I'm a pharmacy technician and I have NEVER seen it prescribed to be inserted in the vagina. I think you should definitely get a second opinion or ask your doctor."

frustratednurse replied: "No...The vaginal tissue is very delicate and it will probably burn..can you do it if you wish I suppose..but I wouldn't..what's wrong with putting in your rectum..."

Is it safe to take suppositories by mouth? Glycerin/Promethazine? Rectal suppositories dont seem like something anyone would want to do.
