tracyksm replied: "Hello,
I have been a respiratory therapist for 19 years.
The answer is.... Albuterol. Take it 15-30 mins. before you exercise.
Also the Advair can be taken daily to control over time. The Advair is a control medication and will not help with a attack. It has to be taken routinely every day in order to be effective. The albuterol is a fast acting or rescue inhaler. Make sure your technic of taking is correct when using your inhalers to get the best results.."
What is the difference between prevention and long-term management of asthma? My doctor prescribed me "Singulair" to take as a preventative for my asthma. My co-worker insists that the term long-term management of asthma, which is what Singulair says it's used for, is not the same as prevention of asthma. She says it is only good for allergies and exercise-induced asthma. Isn't long-term management another way of saying prevention?!??
Person replied: "i would have thought that prevention was stopping the asthma all together and long-term management was just making sure it isn't a huge issue for your whole life"
Unbelieved replied: "First you must know the cause of asthma and then you can prevent it.Your co worker is right, if you have to take ongoing meds to control asthma it is managing the disease. Your doctor meant by preventative that it can prevent attacks from starting or minimize them. There is; however, a way to stop it altogether and it is easy. I had asthma and spring time pollen allergies for 42 years and now none for 12 years. I took courses on pure water versus tap water to advance my herbal knowledge and was told to use pure bottled water and a shower filter just to see if the teaching was right. It worked beyond my wildest dreams. As soon as I stopped using chlorine in any way I started to have my lungs clear up. Within three weeks I had no more plugged lungs and both problems gone. This is a true preventative. For the rest of your life avoid chlorine like the plague and you problems should be gone soon. By the way distilled water is best ro water is ok. Good Luck. H."
Exercises induced asthma? Help...? 2 years ago I developed exercise induced asthma. At first exercise was the only time that I had big troubles breathing. Now its just full blown asthma, but I still get it the worst when exerciseing, but a lot worse then when I first got it. I dont know what to do cause I need to stay healthy for dance and volleyball but even though my bodys not tired my lungs are explodeing after 10 minutes of hard exercise. Ive tried taking my albuterol and singulair at the same time but it hardly helps. What do I need to do?
Sorry this is so long. Thanks.
I have seen a doctor. Actually 3.
Quotha replied: "You need to see a doctor. We aren't trained medical professionals, and asthma isn't something you should mess with. Your doctor will probably be able to prescribe a different medication if the ones you're using right now aren't working for you."
