Will adding wellbutrin to zoloft help libido? I have been taking 100 mg of zoloft (for social anxiety) for a few months and i have no desire to have sex. My doctor lowered my dose of zoloft to 50 mg and prescribed me to 150 mg of wellbutrin. Will this help/ when should my sex drive come back? Do you think this will effect my social anxiety?

MRC replied: "They did that to me, i had to completly get off of the zoloft to get it back, but thats just me."

oldtimekid2 replied: "That would be a really good question to direct to your doctor since he would be the one that prescribed them to you. Your doctor would also have access to your medical history including what has/hasn't worked for you. From here, we would just be blindly guessing at random details that are important. I could give you my best guess of yes, but without a lot of important information that your doctor has, that is just a guess. Good luck!"

Anyone take zoloft with wellbutrin? I'm on 150mg of zoloft daily for anxiety (all the kinds- panic, generalized and social anxiety). the zoloft has helped a lot!! But... I still have some issues with anxiety. My doc has prescribed me 150 mg of wellbutrin and I'm just wondering if anyone takes this combo and if it helps at all? Also, I've read on several blogs and bulletins that Wellbutrin can make anxiety WORSE! Has anyone had this experience?

P3RF3CTiON replied: "Medication alone does not completely work, you need to see smeone to talk about your issues as well as, even fixing your general health i.e nutrition and sleep habits can help with anxiety dramatically. For the side effects causing anxiety to become worse - completely depends on your body's own reaction, you may be fine with it...individual experiences vary. Talk to your Dr. if you are truly worried."

If you've taken Zoloft and Wellbutrin, which did you prefer and why? I have more anxiety than depression, I think, because I have lots of problems in social situations and a terrible time sleeping--can't turn off my brain. I'm also underweight. Going back to dr Monday, and she's going to prescribe something. I'd like your opinions on Zoloft and Wellbutrin, if you've taken both. Thanks

Beez replied: "Ask your physician about Paxil."

sarah replied: "i would go for zoloft. wellbutrin is specific for depression only. zoloft is indicated not only for depression but also for social anxiety disorders, OCD, panic disorder, etc.. dose depends on the desired effect or the disorder that the doctor indicated to cure or control. besides, wellbutrin has more fatal adverse reactions (like arrhythmias and seizures) than zoloft... if u have more questions try asking ur doctor about those drugs :)"

PIXXIE replied: "I've been on both Zoloft works well and may be what you need if not so much depressed. I have way passed Zoloft. I am starting Wellbutrin XL now on my 2th month so really cant say for sure but now I am bi-polar with social disorder...anxity,...panic attacks etc. I read some one recommend PaxilI was on that and I thought I was dieing when I was getting off of it I will never take it again. I use that as an example that we are all different and meds work different on all of us.....Let your Psychiatrist help you decide tell him how you feel you may go through a few different meds till you find the right one for you"

AngWings replied: "I was the same way, I couldnt sleep, My mind would go 90 to nothing when I layed my head on the pillow and when I did go to sleep, I would wake up in the morning with every muscle in my body hurting. My doctor said that even though I was asleep my brain wasnt. So he prescribed, Zoloft (100 mg), Lunesta (I suggest the 1 mg, 3 will knock you out for 24 hours LOL) and Xanax for my so called panic attacks. And I'm not one to take drugs for anything even when I have a headache, but something had to give I was getting exhausted.... My husband is in Iraq somewhere also and that was 90% of my problem was worrying so much about him. But I do feel tons better. I can't say anything about wellbutrin though, I've never taken it. And as for Paxil I've never taken it, but my Dad did and it made him sick and weird feeling. But it does depend on the person too. Just my experience and my dads."

mxarte1@sbcglobal.net replied: "I also have anxiety or better yet social anxiety and depression. What caught my eye was when you said, “ can’t turn off my brain.” Well I also feel the same way and I am being treated for that as well. I also have lost weight like over 50pd. Well when the doctor told I was suffering though depression they tried out so many different anti depression pill on my that one of then speeded up my depression and I ended up getting anxiety over it. At least that what the doctor told me cause before taking this medication I had no problem with anxiety. I don’t know if it was just me or it was the medication that gave it to me just like the doctor said. So you may what to ask if it is possible that certain medication can bring out or get new symptoms of depression. Well the pill beside on what my doctor said that speed up my depression and gave me anxiety was Wilburton XL. You also mite went to tell your doctor that your having trouble sleeping and that you feel like you brain is going like a hundred mile and hour and you just can’t catch up. These could be symptoms of Bipolar. I was diagnosed with BIPOLAR TYPE 2 due to my what they call manic depression and mood swings. I know exactly what your going though. I real cant say which pill is better cause each person reacts differently and I did take both of those. They did not help me. I am currently on 6 different type of medication 1) for my Depression (due to postpartum, family issue and work stress} since 2004 but not diagnosed until 2005 2) for my Bipolar ( just show up out of no where) since 2005 3) for my anxiety ( show up when I stated taking Wilburton XL) since 2005 4) high blood pressure (I never had a problem with this until last month) since 2006 5) sedative sleeping pill ( I could go 3 day without sleepy and feel like I’m on top of the would. But watch out when I come down) since 2005 6) I am severely anemic since 2005 I hope this help you . But if you still don’t understand do what I did research, research . I need to find out for my self why this was happening so I can understand what’s going on in my body and head."

Beav replied: "I have taken both. They're actually two completely different types of anti-depressants. Zoloft is an SSRI or seritonin re-uptake inhibitor. Most popular anti-depressants fall under this category. It basically causes higher levels of seritonin in your brain. This is linked with feelings of well-being and is important for sleep, among other things. Wellbutrin works on dopamine and ephineprine. These are linked with focus and motivation. The main reason Wellbutrin can be good for anxiety and sleep is that it will tend to quiet your mind. So it's less of a direct effect for anxiety, but it can still be effective. When I took Zoloft it was not for anxiety, and I only took it for about a month, but I didn't notice the kind of effect that I did with Celexa, which I took later specifically for anxiety. Within 3 days I felt a pretty dramatic change. I definately felt more confident. It had a big part in preventing panic attacks that I was having when speaking in groups. I know that Zoloft can have a lot of side effects though. The only one I noticed was sexual, which was significant but it didn't prevent anything from happening. I was also on a lower dose. Celexa, on the other hand, has very few. I'm on the maximum dose right now and for me, the side effects are nil. Then again, different people find that different brands work better for them. Paxil seems to be associated with social anxiety, but it's also associated with some nasty side effects. Wellbutrin is great, but whether it will work for you depends on the source or the nature of your anxiety. The side effects aren't bad. I had some trouble sleeping in the beginning, but from what I understand I'm in the minority on that one."

does zoloft and wellbutrin show up in drug tests? this is more specifically for my drug tests that i get in my outpatient rehab, theyre lab tests. my friend gave me zoloft and wellbutrin because shes prescribed to it, and she doesnt take it. im not trying to get fucked up.. my parents dont want me to be prescribed to anything for some reason. if youre gonna say "dont take it because someone else gave it to you and its not your medicine" just dont reply to this please. thanks, i appreciate it. **i heard that zoloft can give false positives for benzos. if i get a positive UA, theres a good chance i could go to jail for 6months to a year. can more people respond pleasee? it would be a big help. thanks. sorry i keep editing this. but every site i checked previous to posting this said that theyve had zoloft give a false positive for benzos. apparently it happened to a lot of people.

The Psych Nurse replied: "Hi. When a Dr orders a blood test or a urine drug screen they are looking specifically for illicit substances. For example, cannabanoids or amphetamines. They may also be looking for other medications such as benzodiazepines (Valium) or serum blood levels of mood stabilisers or antipsychotics such as clozapine. As for antidepressants they do not usually look for those things because they are not considered drugs of a abuse nor are they addictive. I honestly believe you have nothing to be concerned about. :)"

clever girl replied: "Zoloft and wellbutrin does not come up as recreational drugs, however, in your case they may look at it differently. I am glad you know never take meds that are not prescribed for you."

krista replied: "these are antidepressants. Neither of these medications are in the benzo family - nor are they controlled substances. Your urine screen will definitely not test positive for anything illegal if these are the only substances in your system. I would not worry at all about this if I were you. I've never heard of zoloft causing a false positive for benzos. Not possible."

Andy replied: "As these drugs are anti-depressants, I doubt that they will show up as illicit drugs on a drug test."

Hi, I just got back from Iraq. My doctor has prescribed me wellbutrin 300mgs a day and zoloft 100mgs a day and 15 miligrams of valium a day. Is this safe? It seems a lot to me, I dont believe i have ptsd, just some readjusting/anger issues.

Bud's Girl replied: "That IS an awful lot, but I'm no doctor. The 15 mg. of Valium alone would knock me out for most of a day! I'm surprised he put you on that anyway, it's extremely addicting."

fashionG replied: "well if you say you have anger issues from iraq he may not say you have pts but he may thinking you may not adjust quickly in a given situation sense you said you have some anger issues so he may trying keep you calm and the valium is addictive and that's a pretty strong dose the zoloft treats depression and the wellbutrin may be a antipsychotic I am not a doctor so you may ask about all of it and people also use wellbutrin to stop smoking cigarettes take care and take it easy don't push yourself to hard, and thanks for being a servant for our nation, GOD bless"

emeck replied: "wow I would say thats alot to be on I was on Wellbutrin and wow i wasn't on that much and then I still thought just the Wellbutrin was a lot"

Marcia K replied: "Welcome Home! You people are doing a great job. I am on 200 mg of Zoloft and 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL. They are both anti-depressants but they work differently and they enhance each other. The amount of valium I would question. It sounds a little heavy. Try anger management classes; you don't want to hurt yourself or anyone else. Good luck."

l0uislegr0s replied: "that is a lot. I would consult your doctor about your concerns and if that doesn't help get a second opinion from a qualified expert. I wish you luck, also thank you for serving in the military."

mal'ary'ush replied: "It's not a lot to take, it might be if you're just starting to take them (referring to the antidepressants). You're supposed to start w/ small doses and increase as needed. I also take 300mg of Wellbutrin & 100mg of Zoloft. Not a big deal. I also take Klonopin, anywhere from 1-2mg when needed, which is stronger than Valium. For anxiety, 15-30mg of Valium is normal. Dosages for adults can range from 2-10mg taken 2-4 times a day or 15-30mg once a day. So 15 isn't a lot. As long as you feel fine, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're worried it's too much, decrease the dosage on your own or talk w/ your doctor."

Hope replied: "Each medication is aimed at separate aspects of your condition. valiulm - works to calm you for a few hours Wellbutrin - elevates your mood on the day you take it Zoloft - is to bring-up your brain chemistry to sustain it at a normal level -elevates your mood - this works on a delay of 2 to 3 weeks If you have further questions about the appropriateness of taking all 3 together, ask your pharmacist."

mark f replied: "Taking two antidepressants is unwise unless there were serious clinical reasons for doing so. There is an increased risk of side effects both in the short immediate term and in the long term. There have been few if any clinical studies on combining two antidepressants. Diazepam is very addictive. I recommend that you read this resource If you have just come from a war zone it is not abnormal to have problems readjustment and anger problems. That is not a chemical imbalance but a natural mindset. It is normal to have such feelings just like it is normal to grieve after a parent dies or be devastated when a wife walks out on a husband. I am not sure if you have a genuine mental illness and am not sure on the logic of prescribing powerful psychotropic drugs for normal feelings. Although obviously I don't know your degree of suffering from 1 paragraph only you know. I think counselling would be better. You may be able to get talk therapy from your loved ones or friends without going to a professional but if your feelings are severe then maybe talking to a professional would help. I would suggest you research the pills you are taking. They are not smarties like some doctors prescribe them as especially when taken long term.If you do not have serious mental health problems then don't use powerful psychiatric drugs. If I were you I would take them for the shortest time possible. If you have been taking them longer than a few weeks I would not stop them abruptly as you can have withdrawal symptoms or as they are sometimes called by doctors "discontinuation syndrome/symptoms". Sedatives such as diazepam can especially make you go nuts coming off it and can wreck your emotions and memory with long term use. I know people who didn't abuse benzodiazepines such as diazepam who are more messed up from those type of pills than meth addicts."

Is it worth it to take zoloft? i am currently prescribed to zoloft and wellbutrin. i have been taking wellbutrin for about 7 ,months or so. i just recently started taking zoloft three days ago. however it makes me feel horrible. i am shaky, nauseous, dizzy, and feel really weird. I know the side effects will subside, but is it worth it for me to continue feeling this way until the zoloft starts working? also does anybody know how long it will take to start working and if it even works at all? also will it make me gain weight? thanks!

Ford Fairlane replied: "YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!"

cranky lady replied: "NO! They recently did a study and Zoloft causes more harm than help. Take a different med because Zoloft can cause you to have suicidal thoughts and many other bad side effects. My cousin took a depression med and he turned really weird and started getting into a lot of trouble. Better go to a psychiatrist or something."

max.coke replied: "no, wellbutrin is better. wellbutrin increases adrenaline + dopamine which are good- energy, etc. helps people lose fat zoloft iincrease serotonin- which is supposed to make you happy, but ive never been a fan of it. as for weight gain- wellbutrin definately causes wight loss, serotonin is unclear - for some people weight gain, some weight loss"

doodlesnicker replied: "It is most common with any medicication designed to have psychological benefits to have the patients concerned about the effectiveness of their treatment. To this end, we at the Rutgers Center for Psychological Studies have developed simple, self-administered tests to help a patient determine for themselves whether or not a given medication is actually helping. By allowing the patient to be involved firsthand in their treatment evaluation, we feel that only positive things can result."

missilyne replied: "Why are you taking both at the same time, that is not a good idea. As for Zoloft, yes it is a anti-depressant, I take it daily. It has madea world of difference. But please, find out why you are taking two anti-depressants at the same time. I shouldn't make you gain weight. And the shakiness, dizziness and nausea are probably because you are taking two of the same kind of drug. It's kind of like over dosing on medication that you should only be taking one of."

versantly replied: "worth it?? talk to your doctor and get some counseling."

NekoMimi replied: "You can't judge what the Zoloft is doing to you until it is fully in your system... That means giving it a MINIMUM of 2 weeks!! MINIMUM... After the first 2 weeks the side effects will taper off and even out... The first 2 weeks on Welbutrin for ME was HELL! I was dizzy... I had Yawn... (Which is much more annoying then it sounds) sleep problems... The works... But I stuck with it and they tapered off and now I know it was the right medication for me... Don't give up on a medication until it has had time to actually start to work! I'm on Wellbutrin XL and Effexor SR and it is the first combo to work for me!"

me w replied: "Zoloft and wellbutrin are commonly prescribed together because Zoloft helps with depression and wellbutrin works for anxiety as well as ADD. Zoloft is a ssri, which means it does not give you serotonin but allows your brain to use what you already have more efficiently. Many people have side effects in the beginning of their treatment but it usually dissipates within a few weeks. What you need to look for is worsening symptoms of depression or anxiety."

aneurodoc125 replied: "Go back to your doctor with these complaints. YA is not the place."

Has anyone been prescribed Wellbutrin XL for PMS or PMDD? I'm on both Wellbutrin and Zoloft and I take both every morning. One morning I realized I was out of Zoloft so I took just the Wellbutrin. I felt so much happier and more like myself. I have heard though that it can make anxiety worse. Has anyone had success taking Wellbutrin for hormonal issues?

tammy_girl61 replied: "I, too, have taken both of these drugs. Actually, I'm still on Wellbutrin and prefer it over the Zoloft. Zoloft made me feel tired all of the time and I believe it slowed down my metabolism. But the worst part was it erased my sex drive entirely! Wellbutrin doesn't carry these side effects on me. I know everyone is different, but you may want to ask your doctor to remove the Zoloft and maybe up the dosage on the Wellbutrin. Good luck!"

pat s replied: "I tried it once, but it gave me a headace, tried Zoloft but after awhile, wasnt getting results, so now im on Citalopram, which i like"

Is it possible for a 6-year recovered alcoholic to get life insurance? I have also been prescribed both Wellbutrin and Zoloft for the past several years...Does that mean that "I've been diagnosed with a 'Mental Illness' as so stated on many Term Insurance Questionaires? It seems that nearly 1 out of 3 adults are now on some sort of SSRI antidepressant, but I don't think they would all be considered 'mentally ill' by their physicians....Heck, everyone is a little depressed these days. I'm unemployed, near-penniless and am having my home repossessed next month after scraping up the last of my retirement accounts' balances to pay this month's payment, so I'd like to know that if I had to, I could somehow "take one for the team" so that I could leave my wife and only child (just 8 month's old) with something.

Jay jay replied: "i don't actually know about the insurance but i want to congratulate you, you are a strong person and deserve so much better. I hope that all goes well for your family! It'll get better day by day. I kicked crack 4 years ago, I went to prison, lost my daughter and everything i owned, but i got it back and you will too! Just have to work at it, don't take your eyes from the prize xxx"

DarkStar replied: "Anything is possible. And from my experience, yes you can get life insurance. I am a recovering heroin addict of three years and I have life insurance. However, I would probably look into some other options to help your family. Your wife and kid need you. Besides life insurance takes time to build up money, at least mine does. And for the mental illness, I am on wellbutrin and suboxone and have been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. But if your doctor didn't specifically tell you something than you may just have depression. And who doesn't suffer from that, ya know. I guess if you are a manic depressant, than that may qualify as a mental illness. Anyhow, I hope everything works out for you and your family. I can relate with you completely and again just from my own experience, life will get better. It may take dealing with some shitty times, but in the end it will be worth it to see your child grow up.. I wish you all the luck in the world. And just remember, picking up a drink will only make things worse in the end..."

blb replied: "You need to seek help for your depression. You are beyond just a little depressed if you are talking about taking one for the team. Regarding the insurance. There are companies that will insure you but every life insurance policy has suicide clauses in them. They vary from company to company but if you committ suicide within the first 1-2 years nothing is paid out to the beneficiaries. Please seek help at a local free clinic. Good Luck"

deep5223 replied: "Life insurance should not be your concern right now. You probably could find a company that will insure you, but with the 2 year suicide clause, you would have to pay premiums for two years before it would pay your wife and child. What you need now is support, help finding a job and then when you are back on your feet, find out about insurance for the"just in case" times. Just remember, tomorrow is a new day and we all have the same 24 hours to do with as we choose. Choose to seek help. Good luck."

aaron p replied: "Having a history of alcoholism and currently being on meds shouldn't knock you out in and of itself. Your liver enzymes may be a little off from any lingering damage you may have caused. The real challenge that an underwriter would be faced with is justifying the coverage on you with no income to protect (financial underwriting). I don't see this happening. Besides, as mentioned before, the life contract wouldn't pay if you committed suicide within two years time (they will definitely investigate with any mental illness history). I would focus on getting a job with group benefits so that you can afford good psychological care and you would have a stable income that a life insurance company would be willing to protect."

jmrob29 replied: "Most policies have a suicide clause - you have to pay at least 3-5 years before you off yourself - or else it looks premeditated at the time of signing up for the insurance. You can probably get life insurance if you are willing to pay extra - since you are on those medications you might get "rated" or an increased premium. I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck, we've all had some bumps in the road...and trust me, that's all this is....just a hiccup. Talk to you mortgage company, perhaps when you tell them of your hardship they can work something out with you....ask for the loss mitigation department and ask them to do a hardship forebearance. That would temporarily waive your payments until you can get back up on your feet."

mbrcatz17 replied: "Well, the questions are "have you EVER" So yes, you have EVER had a drinking problem, and yes, you are depressed. You'll be able to get it, BUT, it's going to be expensive. AND, it's going to exclude suicide for the first three years (time period varies by state), so "taking one for the team" isn't going to help the situation. I'd suggest getting involved with a church."

tolivinclean replied: "yeah, you could leave them withOUT a husband and father. And no, everyone is NOT a little depressed these days. I am a recovered addict and I am not a little depressed these days but I tell you what work the steps and get out of your self centeredness which is consuming you. You are going to be self sacrificing and do your family a favor? You think taking yourself out is "one for the team"? did you ever see the yankees win by having one of their star players walk away? I haven't. Do them a real favor and get help."

periwinkle replied: "let me try to dissect your case piece by piece. here goes: history of alcohol dependence - yes, it is possible to get life insurance provided you meet the heath and character requirements. The underwriter would most probably ask you to answer a questionnaire, submit an attending physician's statement, undergo a liver function test, bilirubin, etc. depression - depends on what is causing such condition; and it also depends on the severity of the condition, and response to treatment. Unemployed - I'll be hesitant to give you a life insurance unless you can convince me (or the underwriter) that your unemployed state is just temporary. Life insurance is about income protection, and financial loss- meaning, if you don't have a steady income, then you and your family don't need protection because there won't be any financial loss in case of death."

How well does wellbutrin work? My Dr. Prescribed me Wellbutrin for my depression cuz I am always sad & sleepy. Will this give me more energy & help me to feel happier? Does it have less side effects? I was on Zoloft but experieced horrible side effects. Any help appreciated thanks.

fiVe replied: "Everyone reacts to medications differently so there's no way to know if you'll get side effects with Wellbutrin. I didn't. I tried a few SSRIs (the same kind of drug as Zoloft) and had awful side effects on all of them. Wellbutrin is a different class of drug, so you may react better to it. It can be too intense for some people, too, though."

bellyup replied: "all your problems are in your head you gotta fix them in your head yourself. A drug will only preoccupy your mind will artificial stimulation. It will not solve the root cause of your problems. I took wellbutrin and felt highs but lower lows. I would just learn to think positive and if you do that long enough your brain will release serotonin on its own. Thats a real solution to your problems"

ClapSo replied: "I tried three of those poison pills including wellbutrin and zoloft. They all gave me bad side effects and did nothing to help me. I decided that what was really wrong with me was going to idiot doctors that think we all need to take some pill or another. I gave up going to doctors and feel much better!"

mr_ignorant replied: "I hope but you may want to consider a benzo like klonopin or xanax . with those you feel relief within 20-45 min after taking it. thing is you have to go through hell these days to get benzos. I'm lucky and my doc has me on klonopin. antidepressants and such are not habit forming but they seldom work. benzos are addictive but if taken as directed you will get instant relief. mental health is nothing to play with and doctors should stop trying to make new drug company's rich but good luck. Also everyone responds positive to benzos that's just one reason they are used to relax patients about to have surgery. they are also first line drugs used in detox centers. I take klonopin for anxiety and depression and live a very happy life. antidepressants are a scam aimed at making drug company's rich. maybe that's why many people who have taken AD have commited suicide because they got no relief. anyway be assertive go to therapy and if all else fails you are going to need a benzo for instant relief.also dint listen to the common "snap out of it" comments as the people making those statements are not educated on mental health disorders.most mental health disorders are a result of a chemical imbalance which is out of your hands(not brain damage though lol) good luck. Nobody deserves to live a sad life. I wish u the best."

denise b replied: "I HAVE HEARD NOTHING BUT POSITIVE REVIEWS ON THIS DRUG....... YES ITS SUPPOSE TO DO ALL THAT FOR YOU.....GOOD LUCK"

dave w replied: "i've taken that personally, as well as a few other antidepressants (paxil, zoloft, i forget what else). wellbutrin is the worse stuff i've ever taken. i took it for about a month and it made me psychotic. i was merely depressed before taking it (i also smoked more while on it. remember: this is the drug which was rebranded under a different name and sold as a smoking cessation pill). after a month on wellbutrin i ended up in a psych hospital for a few days. paxil worked well for me, but i felt somewhat like i was on xtc while on it. zoloft had the least side effects for me. i also found it almost impossible to fall asleep most of the time while on SSRIs, so i took ambien before going to bed. i don't take anything any more. i've determined that the reason for my issues is autism, so i take into account autism coping techniques and have learned when to stop when i've reached a limit with something. i've also taken benzodiazepines (as someone else here is quite fond of) and they do provide nearly instant relief with anxiety, and probably anxiety-induced depression. i think that SSRIs are useful tools, but not to be taken indefinitely. someone else mentioned thinking positively. learning how to do this has kept me from getting depressed in situations similar to past experiences which resulted in depression. however, when one is actually depressed it's quite difficult to change one's way of thinking into the positive. that's where i think SSRIs, etc come in. after you have regained comfort and learned some coping skills, then i think it's time to ween off of them. every psychiatrist except one (out of 6 or 7?) has adamantly told me that i'd need to take those drugs forever. the one who didn't was the rare psych who actually listened to me. oh, and besides the long-term health concern of these drugs, they seem to take away one's sense of self. you're maybe no longer depressed, and maybe artificially happy about anything, but things just don't feel real. some of these psych medicines also impair your cognitive abilities, which probably doesn't matter to most people, but if you need to engage in deep logical thought often, it can be a problem."

Daniel F replied: "Wellbutrin works for some people. If it doesn't work for you, try something else. I think Lexapro works very well."

Is Wellbutrin helpful with depression? Can you just stop taking it if it doesnt work? I was just prescribed it for 150mg. I took Zoloft first but it made me gain weight so I switched to Wellbutrin. If you've taken it did it help? I'm 17 and have had depression and anxiety for like 2 years but just now started getting treated for it. I could really use info about this drug. Please tell me your experiences.

suki replied: "In my experience it works really well but that is not to say it will work for you the same way. It is not something that you should just stop taking if it is not working with your body correctly. It does not tend to cause the weight gain of most of the other meds they give for depression but again it all has to do with your body and how it reacts to you. Good luck and I hope that it works for you."

user1notfound replied: "i did take generic wellbutrin. first - i think it is important to remember these are chemicals that will react differently in everyone. so my story. i have "anxiety" for a lack of a better word. my body at first rejected it strongly - just as my body rejected all SNRI / SSRI class of drugs. but this one was a little easier to take. i can only say i had 2 "good" days on it. 1 day i felt a little "woozy / stoned / out of it / feeling good" and the other day i had some good / positive sexual side effects. these days didn't happen back to back either. the daily feeling i had on it was like a cup of coffee. did it help with my depression? a little. did it help with my anxiety? no. those happened only 1 day each- and came and went. so really it wasn't giving me any relief that i was looking for. sometimes i actually felt worse taking them. i did have 2 "bad" days on wellbutrin. i had this sensation like my neck was stiff / going to break / i couldn't relax my neck. it was a stiffness even deeper than my neck muscles. its very hard to explain. i felt like i could not control my neck for hours. it was very scary and caused me great panic. the main sensation i have had when taking paxil / celexa / is this "buzzing" sort of sensation all through out my entire body with a type of drowsiness that is almost painful. my body rejects these drugs and i don't thing they are right for me. i answered the question only because i have had experience with wellbutrin - but may not be the best qualified because i don't take it anymore and i physically cant take any major anti depressant because it cause me severe physical reactions."

eloiselt replied: "I'd be careful. You really shouldn't just stop antidepressants. Usually, a gradual 'weaning' is recommended, where you lower the dose gradually over the course of a few weeks. Just stopping the drug can leave you with some nasty withdrawal symptoms, like worsened depression, agitation, anxiety, irritability, and sleeplessness. And the withdrawal symptoms can take up to a few weeks to appear, as there is still the drug left over in your body after you stop taking it. Good luck!"

Paul A replied: "I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me. The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active - and wanting to do things - while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can't tell I'm taking any medication at all. I've heard of a lot of people who take Wellbutrin with their SSRI's (which is what Zoloft and Lexapro are). It helps counteract some of the bad side effects of the SSRI - such as weight gain, lack of energy, and the sexual side effects. So, you can, if you need to, take both Zoloft and Wellbutrin. 150 mg of Wellbutrin is not a lot, and you might need a low dose of Zoloft to go along with it. Best of luck to you :-)"
