Is Zithromax (Azithromycin) used to treat both men and women? I wasn't sure if this medication was used to treat both men and women who have been diagnosed with Chlamydia... I know it's an antibiotic so I'm going to assume that it will cure both men and women. Another question... Will men and women take a different dosage of this medication?

cruelsuperset replied: "No, same dose. They are treating the disease, that doesn't vary from person to person."

Rastoplast replied: "No. It's meant for people. Women and Men. So if your not one of those, then don't use it"

Can Zithromax be used to temporarly treat an absess tooth? No insurance coverage and in alot of pain.

אַרְאֵל replied: "yes, if it's infected...but take the full course."

c_schumacker replied: "Its not a very good choice. Most dental abscess require coverage for gram negative bacteria. Standard penicillin or Clindamycin are better choices."

Amy replied: "No, unfortunately it will not help treat your tooth, it is important to understand that each antibiotic is used to treat different infections in the body the zpack is not "designed" for the teeth usually a penicillin or a family member of that drug is given for an abscess you need to see a dentist do you have coverage?"

How long after treatment for chlamydia is it safe to have intercourse? My boyfriend and I were both treated for chlamydia with a one time dose of zithromax on a tuesday, we had sex that following friday and used a condom. When we were done we noticed the condom broke. Should we get treated again or were the antibiotics still in our system and still working? after only 4 days?

ariana replied: "You should be fine after that long."

.....? replied: "You should go get checked just to be sure!"

been prescribed medicine but doc didnt tell me what i have? i was prescribed zithromax; i have a cough, congestion, and did i mention i cough alot, i also feel tired if i do something besides lay down on my bed. my doctor didnt say what i have he just gave me the meds, he also didnt specify when i should go back to school, i already have missed 3 days! should i just miss the whole week or take a chance and go tomarrow? he didnt even give me a doctor's note!!! i looked up the drug online and it said it is used to treat community-aqcuired pneumonia... can anyone confirm this? since i have missed 3 days of school should i just go tomorrow and take a chance of fainting and embarrassing myself at my school or go monday. since i dont have a docs note can my parents vouch for me instead for an excused absence or can i give them my prescription as proof???

jenny replied: "I have been given zithromax for a sinus infection before, but I am sure it is presribed for a lot of different kinds of infections. If you feel well enough to go to school then go. You don't want to fall behind too much on your homework. If you still feel too sick go ahead and rest over the weekend. I am sure you could always call the doctor and they can get you an excuse."

Sara replied: "It's used to treat a lot of different things. It sounds like you have some sort of respiratory infection. If your doctor gave you a bill, the diagnosis is probably on there. If you're running a fever, you should stay home. Even if you're not running a fever, if you're still miserable, I would stay home. Call your doctor tomorrow and ask them to mail a note to you. Or, if someone could swing by the doc's office to pick up, that would probably be even better. Don't forget to ask for a note the next time you'll need one."

Temporal_Lobe replied: "You are fine to go to school. Zithromax will take care of whatever possible infection you have. It is a particular antibiotic that is good for many things. For extra energy, take a multivitamin or two. As a side note, take the multivitamins two hours before or after medications if possible, in case they affect absorbtion. For this particular antibiotic a multivitamin will not affect it."

Jell-o replied: "i'm not sure about the zithromax, but you'd better stay at home in case as you might infect your schoolmates! call your doctor and see what he says. if he agrees that you should stay at home, tell him to give you a sick leave note."

Is this mastitis or thrush? I woke up this morning and discovered that whenever I put even the slightest pressure on my nipple, I have a stabbing pain that shoots up into my breast. I have been nursing for 9 months, and I just finished a 5 day Zithromax course 2 days ago. I called the nurse at my OB's office to say I thought I had thrush, even though there is no external signs of it, and she is telling me that it has to be mastitis. Isn't it much more likely to be thrush considering I just finished an antibiotic that is used to treat mastits?? I am not having any pain while I am nursing really, unless my daughter pushes in on my nipple. There is no redness, swelling, hardness in my breast, and I don't have a fever.

sheesh youre all nuts replied: "i just think youre nipples are sore from nursing. the baby is 9months now so she would probably suck even harder and cause a pain. which doesnt mean will happen while she is sucking, but can happen after. i heart the thrush is itchy and painful."

Teeny Beeny replied: "If it was mastitis, you would have a high fever (104-105 is normal), general "sick" feeling, severe engorgment, breasts (usually just one) that felt hot to the touch and have red spots/streaks on them. You could also be leaking milk. With mastits, the only real pain relief is to let baby nurse. I've never had thrush, but I've had mastitis and if you had it you would know. Good luck!"

Moon replied: "I had thrush when my daughter was 10 months old. It was extremely painful when she nursed. So much so, that I would cry every time. At one point when she nursed, I was bleeding! That was the end of nursing for us. It was too painful. In some degrees, it does sound like you have thrush, and in some others, it does not. Thrush can be caused by antibiotics, but it would also be very painful when your baby nurses. You should get it checked out to be sure. Here is some info on both conditions: Mastitis Symptoms Mastitis means inflammation of the breast. As with cracked nipples, difficulties with attachment can be a root cause, by making the breast less likely to drain well. The symptoms are: * A red area on part of the breast, may be painful to touch * Lumpy breast that that feels hot to the touch * The whole breast aches and may become red * Flu-like symptoms, which can start very suddenly and get worse very quickly: increased temperature, aching, shivering Prevention and Treatment of Mastitis * Avoid suddenly going longer between breastfeeds, cutting down gradually instead. * Avoid having overfull breasts, and express using hands or a breast pump, if they start to feel too full. * Avoid pressure on the breast from clothing and fingers, e.g. don't wear tight-fitting bra's. * At the first sign of any red area on the breast, start the following self-help measures: * Continue breastfeeding: the quickest way to get better as it drains the breast, and it is completely safe for the baby. Feed from the sore side first. * Feed the baby more frequently or express between feeds if breasts feel too full. * Express gently after feeds so that the breasts are kept as well drained as possible, until the symptoms are better. Thrush Symptoms Thrush is a yeast infection affecting a mother's breast. It is often caused by antibiotics or nipple damage. The mother sometimes shows no symptoms, but these signs are usually present, according to the 2003 Breastfeeding Network pamphlet "Thrush and Breastfeeding": * Sudden start of breast and/or nipple pain after days or weeks of pain-free breastfeeding * Shooting pains in the breast * Cracked nipples that don't heal * Loss of colour in nipple or areola * Pain in both breasts occurs when the baby transfers the infection while feeding. Symptoms in the baby include: * Creamy white patches in the mouth or on tongue, that do not rub off * White sheen on baby's tongue that doesn't rub off * Baby keeps pulling off or away from the breast while feeding * Baby seems unsettled and unhappy * Nappy rash Thrush Treatment Thrush should always first be identified by a medical professional, breastfeeding support person or midwife. This is because the symptoms can be confused with signs of poor attachment of baby to breast. A doctor will prescribe miconazole cream to the mother and miconazole oral gel to the baby. Here are some self-help measures: * Carry on breastfeeding – get support if necessary. * Follow good hygiene – wash hands after each nappy change, use separate towels for each family member, and sterilise anything baby sucks on. * Acidophilus capsules can help restore the 'good bacteria' that keeps thrush under control Most breastfeeding problems can be successfully treated with self-help measures and support, but if mastitis symptoms have not improved after 12-24 hours, a doctor should be consulted for possible antibiotic treatment, and thrush should always be diagnosed by a professional."

Red itchy Vagina and Anus HELP please? I tested positive for Chlamydia 3 weeks ago negative for gonnorhea and was treated with Zithromax. My boyfriend was also treated but his test was later found to be negative. We had unprotected sex a lot so how could he be negative? Anyway we had sex one week after he was treated. My vagina feels exactly like it does when you have a yeast infection, extremely itchy and irritated, I used monisitat and I guess some of the medicine leaked and spread to my anus and now my anus is red and very itchy/irritated as well and my vagina is still extremely irritated and itchy. Could this be a Chlamydia reinfection? but my boyfriend tested negative... I'm VERY confused. I'm going on Friday to get re-tested but anyone have any Ideas? could this be Trichomoniasis?

Andrew replied: "Stds I think."

Vince P replied: "consult your dr"

SP7 replied: "Stop having premarital sex."

ThE gLoMp KiNg replied: "I might be wrong but it could be Crabs...Talk to your doctor."

The Hat replied: "wow, i'm glad i'm still a virgin, i don't want Chlamydia!"

Benny S replied: "Definately a reinfection. Happens all the time to people who have unprotected sex...it really sucks doesn't it!?"

ana!luvs!blade replied: "oh, that sounds really bad! go see a dr pronto. and did u use a condom??"

Gabe O replied: "Sometimes the virus that travels on guys doesn't effect them. There dirty ass parents had it.. and now they are immune to it.. Now your fresh little self, its stuck going through that.. Just soak in a tube 2 times a day.. warm water and keep your self clean. Give it a month..to heel"

jennabeans replied: "Could definitely be trich, but did they test for that at first? And as for your boyfriend, STD tests on males are a little more difficult to conclude than on females. Unfortunately he could have had a false negative, which would cause you to be reinfected. I suggest you both get retested and tested for trich as well. And while you're at it, might as well do a fungal swab to determine if you have a yeast infection. If there is no discharge, then it's more than likely not a yeast, and the fact that is has "spread" to your anus is a concern. Good luck! Send me a message if you have any more concerns, I'd be happy to help."

sweetjazzy85 replied: "remember you were just on antibiotics... antibiotics increase the yeast formation in the body and fuguses... you may have a yeast infection... just go to your gyno.. he will probably send you cream for the inside and outside for the labias :)"

Chlamydia reinfection or Trichomoniasis? Ok I tested positive for Chlamydia 3 weeks ago, and I was treated with Zithromax. My boyfriend was treated as well but his test came back negative and I don't understand how he was negative if we were having unprotected sex. I got a retest and came back negative so we proceeded to have sex and now I have severe itching on my vaginal lips and vulva, a little bit in the inside of the opening too. Its very very severe itching, and a little burning. It feels exactly like a yeast infection but its not. I used Monistat and everything. It is very very intense itching. It really doesn't sound like Chlamydia to me, does this sound like Trichomoniasis?

Paola V replied: "trichomoniasis"

Sassa replied: "please you have to go to the ginecologue. this infections may cause you biggest problemes.the itching could be only a champignon but u have to be treated."

neytra replied: "antibiotics can cause you to have a yeast infection. go back to the dr and have her check again for infections"

Help, I feel like my doctor misdiagnosed me b/c he's tired of all the swine flu patients? I'm 16 weeks pregnant and went to my doctors on Tues. b/c I felt sick--I had a bit of a sore throat and a lot of pressure and achyness around my face. I didn't have any nasal problems. I thought I had the begining stages of a sinus infection. He came in and w/in 5 min. said I had strep throat. I had no fever and I have been checking since I'm pregnant and the flu is hitting. My throat wasn't that bad--it felt like an allergy sore throat--nothing too painful Also, I had my tonsils taken out when I was little, so I can't tell you the last time I had strep--I mean, I never get it now that my tonsils are gone. My doctor didn't even take a strep culture, which I know you can do the rapid ones in the office and wait 20 mins for the results. He didn't even ask questions that would ween out a sinus infection. He just said "yeah you have strep and here is some low dose amoxicillan since you're pregnant". I left feeling very unsure. I'm a hypocondriac, so I read up on a lot of medical information and this is a new doctor I'm seeing...everyone swears he's one of the best in my area, but I felt like he was tired of the mass quantity of patients coming in thinking they have the flu. Well I have been taking the medicine for two days and my throat is fine, but it wasn't that sore to begin with. I didn't even see white or yellow spots on the back of my throat. But even though I have been taking my medicine, my head and the pressure around it has still be present. Just like if I had a sinus infection. And this morning I woke up w/green mucus when I blew my nose. I don't know what to do b/c I don't want to call and say "I know you went to school for 6-8 years, but you're wrong". But I'm pregnant and I need to get better for my baby and my immune system AND I can't afford to take anymore days off work since I get a limited amount of sick time and it's only October. What do I do? I read that amoxicillan can treat sinus infections but doctors usually use a strong antibiotic such as zithromax or bactrium. Does anyone know anything about my situation?? I also read that fevers are common w/strep and I haven't had a fever at all...I was floored when he said I had strep...I really feel that I had the beginning of a sinus infection. Ugh..

Lauren replied: "Well from what you were saying it really does not sound like you have strep. I am not a doctor or anything though so i really can't tell. Really my only advice i could tell you is that you know your own body a lot better than any doctor does and if you still think something is wrong which is not strep you really should go to another doctor who seems more willing to figure out what is wrong with you and not just throw a diagnosis onto you. Sorry i can't be of anymore help."

Cola replied: "Finish the antibiotics he prescribed. But if your illness doesn't clear up it's worth going back to see him and demanding a little more attention. If I recall properly, doctors usually don't wait for a throat culture for strep in pregnant women because there are potential complications. In fact, they even test some pregnant women to see if they're carriers of strep and prescribe antibiotics to prevent passing it to the baby. So that may not be odd. But he still could have misdiagnosed you."

Mel replied: "Take the rest of your medicine, and if you don't feel better then go back. You worrying so much is probably worse for your baby than having strep or the flu. Stress goes a long way, so just relax, take a day off of work, listen to some music your baby would like, I think classical? and just relax for you and your baby."

a few questions? 1) I'm 33 wks prg. I have a lingering cough that won't go away and wouldn't let me sleep. I have a bacterial sinus infection. On Zithromax. I could take Sudafed & Tylenol as needed (used to have fever). Those 2 meds don't really work. Cough drops don't work. Any home remedies that you guys can recommend? I did not sleep for a little over 24 hrs because of this no matter how propped up I was. 2) Any home remedy ways to treat sinus pressure besides Sudafed? 3) Crib question: I have a used crib set up in our baby's room. I want to clean it soon, disinfect it. I wanted to use disinfectant wipes on it but my mom & a few friends said it might eat away at the wood. Any good ideas on what to clean the crib with? Thanks for your answers.

Barbara S replied: "I just got over a terrible cold - the cough was the first thing that hit. Fun, isn't it? I'm sure your baby thinks it's on a roller coaster, because mine would kick me in the ribs every time I coughed. Anyway, my doctor prescribed some cough syrup and some other medications that I never even took because I felt I didn't need them that badly. Anyway, I did have trouble sleeping as well and my husband and I bought a humidifier. I noticed a difference almost immediately, and was able to sleep much better using it. I didn't have a sinus infection, but the moist air helped clear my stuffy head. My nose was bleeding a lot from blowing it so much and from our dry winter air, and the humidifier definitely helped with that as well. We're still using it, and it's a great investment for the baby, too. If you do decide to get or use one you already have, look for antimicrobial water purification cartridges - I found the Protec brand ones at Wal Mart for about $4 each. They're good for 30 days and will save you from cleaning the tank every time you need to fill it. You can just drop them in the tank, if your humidifier doesn't have a compartment for them to fit into. As far as your crib goes, if the wood is sealed you should be able to use disinfectant wipes, but I'd be leary of lingering chemical residue. A solution of white vinegar and warm water might be a better approach, as it's natural and will kill germs and clean things. If the wood is painted, I'd get someone to check it out for you before you even use the crib - you'll need to make sure that anything used on it is a non-toxic finish. Good luck and congrats!"

Elle Yang replied: "I always make a cough medicine by squeezing the juice from ginger (you have to chop it up, and then compress it between two spoons or something to get the juice out) and then matching it tbl for tbl with pure honey. Mix it together and take a tbl or two, by mouth or by mixing it with some tea (the ginger is quite strong, so some ppl find it hard to take even with the honey). It STOPS coughing and keeps it away for hours. We use this remedy in our home all the time and it even works well when very very sick (we got to test it when my husband had pnuemonia). as far as sinus pressure goes, I'd try rubbing some vapor rub on your chest and throat or adding a little to a pan of steaming hot water and breathing it in (you don't need to add the vapor rub, but it really seems to help ALOT when you do). That should loosen everything up in your head enough to get some relief. You can always take a shower and help relieve pressure. now as far as the crib goes, there are disinfectants you can get for wood in the store. I myself simply used pine sol diluted in water and then treated the wood a long time before baby came. It didn't ruin the wood but I would think it'd probally matter more on what type of wood it was (some are more sensitive then others)"

♥ Teresa ♥ replied: "You are allowed to also take Tussin DM ... that should help with the cough. Not sure on the baby crib."

tim_mcgraw_22_7 replied: "i also have a sinus infection and are on zithromax... ive tried everything and nothing seems to work... i guess we just have to hang in there... with the crib i would buy wood polish... they also have pledge wipes for wood... that should do just fine on the crib and it wont eat away the wood... good luck"
